Reviews - What do customers think about Eternal Security: Once Saved Always Saved?
About time!!! Jan 24, 2008
I was a little hesitant about purchasing this book as I could not find much info on it anywhere. I wasn't 100% positive if the author was for it or against the OSAS position. Most books written on eternal security are sadly lacking. They usually treat their audience as though they are complete beginners with God's word. They will give very simple and basic arguments. They often take problem texts and will simply group them and say, "These verses just show that if you do such things only proves that you were never saved to begin with" as a cop-out from arguing the passage.
Only two books have I come across that really went into great depth proving the OSAS position. Those two books are The Reign of the Servants King by Joseph Dillow and this book. This book has over 60 short chapters on each problem text and dives straight into the context and the Greek. He refers many times to Dr Robert Shank and his book Life in the Son and comments on his shoddy Greek as well as Dan Corner who clearly does not know Greek but pretends that he does. He makes very strong arguments and shows over and over again how Dan Corner, Robert Shank and others have either deceptively withheld part of the verse, altered the verse or even misrepresented the Greek to advance their folly.
The back of the book says, "This book is a must read for three reasons. First, no other book can compare. It is the most comprehensive work affirming Eternal Security in the history of Christendom! Second, Dr. Olson uses his experience gained as a Lutheran pastor and evangelist to compare the arguments for and against eternal security side by side. Third, critical aspects of theology underlying Eternal Security that are customarily overlooked or avoided are integrated into each passage as Theological Tidbits.
Dr. Olson presents the key features of each passage in a clear, concise, easy-to-understand manner. Eternal security is affirmed in the brilliant light of God's Word and Luther's penetrating dictum: "justification is the chief article of theology by which the Church or an individual stands or falls." God's gracious promise of eternal life is discussed n light of the critical understanding of justification and sanctification.
Eternal security is the authentication of sound doctrine. It is God's Grand Guarantee of faithfulness providing courage to the martyr, hope to the faithful, and assurance for less than perfect saints. OSAS is the proof that the Door into God's kingdom only works one way. It is the pest hound of heaven for the skeptic and the license of peace for the saints. It is the truth that pilgrims find at the end of the road.
EVERY TRULY BIBLICAL THEOLOGY MUST AFFIRM ETERNAL SECURITY: OSAS!" (Taken in its entirety from the back of the back).
I highly recommend purchasing this book. I also recommend that you buy The Reign of the Servants King by Joseph Dillow but do not buy it here at this site as people are selling Used copies above the actual selling price. I deliberately spaced that out because this site wouldn't allow the site to be displayed for some reason.
p.s. Do not be distracted by any person(s) review that states something negative about this book or a certain argument. Those that oppose will often search for something that they can complain against. You can find something wrong in any book you buy but overall, this is a great book and don't let the OSAS haters keep you from buying it. The book is inexpensive so buy it and read it for yourself.
