Reviews - What do customers think about New Testament Recovery Version (large 9 1/4" x 6 1/4", black)?
Many friends from different christian groups love it Oct 20, 2007
I've been christian more than 30+ years now and my love for the word grew year after year. Up to now I read a few different versions of bibles but by far this is the best. I read it on my own and also I have bible study with different moms from different denominations using this bible. Even though we all go to different churches, presbyterian, baptist, methodist, local church and etc, we really enjoy reading this book with its awesome footnotes. For the ones who wrote negative reviews about this book or local church, obviously they haven't given enough time to really read this book or know the truth in the scripture. I would absolutely recommend this bible to anyone who love the Lord, want to know the truth and grow in christian faith. If anyone is thinking of the bible study at work or with friends or other moms, this book is highly recommended. Just read some verses and footnotes, afterward you will feel so nourished, watered and happy. I liked the footnote about five women, mentioned in Matthew 1, who are important ancestors of Christ. Except Mary, the mother of Jesus, all the other 4 women, Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bestheba were from lowest and sinful background. But this shows us how much Christ loves the sinners and wants to be the Savior of such ones. Isn't it awesome? I can't tell enough how it gave so much benefit to my marriage life, my family life with the children, not to mention my christian life and church life. Enjoy and experience this yourself.
My favorite version of the New Testament Aug 7, 2006
I have really enjoyed reading this copy of the New Testament. Particularly helpful are all of the footnotes, cross-referencing, and study aids written by Witness Lee. Witness Lee wrote his study aids with help from the writings of Watchman Nee, who died a Christian martyr in China, as well as many other Bible scholars throughout history. To begin with, I can't imagine trying to make sense of the book of Revelation without it. Plus, there are plenty of insights into verses in the rest of the New Testament that you might not give much thought to without the comments of the study aids to help guide you.
I met with the local churches from 1977 until 1981, and I can assure you they are not the product of a cult, and neither are their publications. If I had just been going through some kind of silly college phase, I would gladly admit to it now, 25 years after the fact. I suggest that you read this version of the New Testament, along with the numerous included study aids, and see for yourself how very helpful it is. First, though, you are going to have to cast aside all of your preconceived notions as to what a church is and read the New Testament like you are reading it for the first time. Also, the construction of this New Testament is of high quality and very sturdy, and has held up well over time.
To get the most from the footnotes, you might want to look at the accompanying Life Study messages. They are available for your perusal for free online at the website of the Living Stream Ministry. I find them very helpful.
"GANDA" May 25, 2005
If you want to understand the Word of God better, get this version. Others say some of its footnotes tend to spiritualize, to which I reply, "As long as the personal revelations in the footnotes don't conflict with the truth (in fact, they make it easier to understand!), then it's the best one for me." In our language, I'll describe it: "Ganda", meaning beautiful. Godspeed.
For all who truly love Jesus Christ May 24, 2005
Paul told Timothy that God "desires that all men be saved and come to the full knowledge of the truth." (I Tim. 2:4) The note referring to the word truth in the Recovery Version of the New Testament says, "God desires all the saved ones to have the full knowledge of the truth. Truth means reality, denoting all the real things revealed in God's Word, which are mainly Christ as the embodiment of God and the church as the Body of Christ. Every saved person should have a full knowledge, a complete realization, of these things." I Cor. 3:9 states, "...Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard and which have not come up in man's heart; things which God has prepared for those who love Him.." The note that refers to "love Him" reads, "To realize and participate in the deep and hidden things God has ordained and prepared for us requires us not only to believe in Him but also to love Him. To fear God, to worship God and to believe in God (that is, to receive God ) are all inadequate; to love Him is the indispensable requirement. To love God means to set our entire being - spirit, soul and body, with the heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30) - absolutely on Him, that is, to let our entire being be occupied by Him and lost in Him, so that He becomes everything to us and we are one with Him practically in our daily life. In this way we have the closest and most intimate fellowship with God, and we are able to enter into His heart and apprehend all its secrets (Psa. 73:25; 25:14). Thus, we not only realize but also experience, enjoy, and fully participate in these deep and hidden things of God." The more our heart is opened to receive the revelation of this Wonderful One in His Word, the more we are turned to love Him. The notes that are in the Recovery version are for this purpose and with this emphasis. As our hearts are turned to Him, the things in our lives, in the church and in the world are brought into focus. The vain thing of this world lose their attraction, we realize that there is nothing that can compare with seeking Christ in every matter and our lives are focused on the building up of the Body of Christ, which is what satisfies God's heart and carries out His purpose. (Eph. 1:9-12)
It's the best! Jan 12, 2004
I am I high schooler up in AK, and I love it!! This Bible is a great way to study and is easy to understand. As a high schooler I don't understand much, but with this I was able to understand what the different verses mean. It meant alot to me, being as I was solely dependant on my parents and their understanding of the Word. This helped me to study on my own or with other young people that I know.
