Item description for You Are Not What You Weigh: Escaping the Lie and Living the Truth (Inner Beauty Series) by Lisa Bevere...
Overview We have not allowed the image of Christ to be imprinted upon us as deeply as the image of the world. The image of the ideal woman taunts us, seduces our society, and is always just beyond our reach. A deception, a lie, forged by the spirit of this world, women have harshly and unfavorably been compared with this nameless woman, this graven image. Too many women measure themselves by numbers on the scale instead of by the treasure of their heart. Author Lisa Bevere now offers hope to women of all ages as she candidly opens up her heart and reveals the secrets she used to get her weight under control. But, this book isn't really about more information on weight loss, it's about being transformed by the value the Father has placed in us. It's about asking God to fashion you once again, starting with love and peace to refresh a woman's tormented spirit.

Not the "Usual" Approach Aug 21, 2005
Most books that address body weight and the issues surrounding it, take the approach of tackling the unwanted weight itself. This is a book about inner transformation - the ONLY way that true and LASTING change takes place. Lisa explores the spirtual dimension of every woman's battle with the bulge, and gives specific instruction for victory. Don't read this book unless you're ready to be challenged in EVERY area of this most important issue! You will find freedom and wholeness in it's pages.
Fresh New Things about Diet Aug 24, 2004
What I really like about this book is because it's unique, with fresh and new things about diet problem. I have read many many books and articles about diet and stuff, but what I read in Lisa's book is so fresh and new. Other books just keep repeating the same thing over and over again, but not this book. It really change me from the inside. When I was a child I use to be overweight and receive mocking. When I was teenager I lost the fat and did not have problem with weight until after I gave birth to my baby. I became overweight again and since than, the bad memories of mocking and rejection came back to haunt me. This book works as a consolation for me, it heals my hurting soul. It also show me how to reach my normal weigh goal, but now, not for the wrong reason. I also like to read Lisa's own experience, I could trust her because "she's been there and done that".
This book will set you free Apr 15, 2004
I wholeheartedly recommend this book to any woman who has ever struggled with her weight or self-image. Before reading this book, I had been trapped in a hopeless cycle of self-loathing, destructive eating behaviors and depression; I had been anorexic and also overweight and was repeatedly failing any and every diet I tried within days of starting it. This book set me free, because in it Lisa Bevere exposes our culture's lies about body image and worth through the light of God's truth and love. This isn't a diet book, it's a book about coming to understand your worth in Christ and giving Him control over your weight and eating. Though I am still a work in progress and am planning to read the book again, I cannot overstate how powerfully it has affected me and how wonderful it is to be free from the tyranny of dieting and low self-esteem. Again, if you have ever struggled with your weight or body image, read this book!
Excellent Book - Find Help Apr 25, 2000
This is a great book that really helps the reader put food and spirit in line. I highly recommend it. In some parts she (the author) gets very spiritual (which is good) but it can be confusing so you have to focus. When I am feeling down sometimes I go to read it and later I find myself putting things in correct perspective. GREAT for those who have any type of self-esteem, image, or food issue.
