Overview Ariana Forsythe plans her wedding to the extremely wealthy Philip Mornay, and promises to use her new position to do what she can to aid the numerous street waifs she sees in London.
Readers who loved the author's first book, "Before the Season Ends, "will delight in this charming sequel set in Regency London.
As Ariana Forsythe plans her wedding to Philip Mornay, she must adjust to the realization that she is soon to become the wife of an extremely wealthy man. She wonders if it's wrong to rejoice that her future husband is rich. But she promises herself to use her new position to do what she can to aid the numerous street waifs she sees all too often in London.
During a tour of her future home--the house in Grosvenor Square--Ariana makes plans to redecorate according to her tastes. But when Philip arrives home later, he is informed that an expensive silver candlestick and a miniature portrait of George III have gone missing. Moreover, each time Ariana visits the house, accompanied by a friend or relation, another item disappears.
Shortly thereafter Ariana is abducted as she leaves a performance at Covent Garden Theatre, leaving Philip to unravel the pieces of the mystery. Where has his future bride been taken, and by whom? For what reason? How does Ariana's faith play a role?
Finally, after the safe return of his intended, how does Philip--a man of intense discrimination in his tastes--find the many alterations in his house? And what on earth is behind the sudden influx of bills from every charity in London, all thanking him profusely for his uncommon generosity? Will he have second thoughts about his future bride?
Readers will find romance, intrigue, humor, and inspiration in this new book of spirited romance for the Jane Austen soul.

The House in Grosvenor Square May 24, 2010
Be sure to read Book 1 first (this is Book 2). Very entertaining and well-written,i.e., it held my attention and left me wanting to read more of this author.
A Worthy Sequel! Mar 30, 2010
As Ariana prepares to marry Phillip Mornay, she runs into all sorts of peril. With each page, I found myself continually anxious for the principle characters, and in this way, Burkard's second novel has a very different feel than the first.
While all the elements of Regency fiction are in place--from the distinct language to the fanciful characters--this second book had a quicker pace as Burkard kept Ariana and company in constant danger. From the coves stalking her carriage to the dishonest servants within their own homes, treachery has surrounded both Ariana and Phillip as plans for their wedding move forward.
From the cut of Ariana's wedding gown to the intricacies of the artwork in Number 25 Grosvenor Square, Burkard lays Regency London before the reader with skill. She has done an exceptional job with dialogue, and I appreciate the attention she gives to Ariana and Phillip's alone time. A superb job has also been done of introducing future story-lines and I am looking forward with anticipation to her next installment.
A fast paced suspense in Regency Period! Mar 14, 2010
The second book of the series was better than the first even though it did not engage me from the begining. It contained much more suspense and action. I want to give a credit to the author for her imagination with coming with so many events. The writer used twists and turns to keep the reader unaware of what is going to happen next. Unexpected turns are found throughout the book.
The romance in the book was sweet. I have felt the longing between hero and heroine and enjoyed reading about their interactions.
I have felt as an observer of the story and not as an insider. I like when I can get to heroine's shoes. The scenes were too contrived and too much fast paced for me. I like when there is more development in the story.
I wish for the author to use more humor since she has a good mind for it. I think that the best book by Linore would be when she would balance the first book with the second to create the best read.
I enjoyed this book very much! Feb 13, 2010
"The House in Grosvenor Square" is a very compelling book, just as the first book, "Before the Season Ends" is. Both of these books kept me up until 2 AM two nights in a row. (I read books all the time, and this is a rare occurrence!) I just had to know what was coming next! I'm rating it a 4 rather than a 5 because I feel that while there are definitely romantic elements in it - a continuation of the previous story - the story is largely an adventure story rather than a traditional romance. I was afraid to read it because it sounded like it would perhaps be purely an adventure, but there was definitely enough romance to keep me happy, and the story WAS good. I can't wait to read the next book. I've ordered it already.
Nice, but like Nancy Drew. Feb 11, 2010
Ms. Burkard provides an exciting follow-up to "Before the Season Ends" in this book. She keeps you hanging on every word til the end.
One thing I did not like was that it read a bit more like a Nancy Drew than Romance. Other than that, it was an excellent book.
