Item description for First Book of Journeys: Quest for the Other Kingdom (Quest For The Other Kingdom #1) by Linda Settles...
Overview The journey begins when Brae, a young slave boy, dares to flee the City of Bondage under the guidance of The Messenger, an emissary sent by the Great King Immon to assist him in his journey to the Other Kingdom, home of the Great King. The boy will encounter many difficulties along the way. He will be under the threat of attack from Dagog, Prince of the Darkness and his associates who dwell in Middle Cloud but are actively seeking the destruction of all who live in the Kingdom of Adawm. Sometimes he will suffer because he has incurred the hatred of Dagog by setting sail in the Good Ship Seeking under the authority of Addar. At other times he suffers because of his own poor decisions. At all times, The Messenger is present, though often unseen by the boy. The Messengers assistants Grace, and Mercy, Regret and yes, even Suffering, make their presence known to the boy at the point of his deepest need. Somewhere along the way the boy becomes a man and makes the ultimate sacrifice in his service to the Great King who has captured his heart and his allegiance.

Reviews - What do customers think about First Book of Journeys: Quest for the Other Kingdom?
Quest For The Other Kingdom Sep 12, 2008
I am 12 years old and I read a lot of fantasy fiction. I liked this book. It took me only 2 days to read though, and I wished it was longer. It reminded me a little of the Narnia series, except not as detailed. I prefer books that are longer, but I liked the story in this one.
A classic in Christian allegories Jul 29, 2008
Quest for the Other Kingdom is PACKED with symbolism. It is a beautiful adventure story that paints a picture of how our hearts are healed by Christ's love. The style combines three famous classic fiction stories to capture the attention of teens and adults alike: The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings and Hinds Feet on High Places.
New and progressive ideas never have an easy start. Jul 11, 2008
New and progressive ideas never have an easy start. "Quest for the Other Kingdom: The First Book of Journeys" is the story of a kingdom that widely uses slavery, and the culture shock of a free woman who visits it. She tries to spread her message of a morally better way, but does not receive a warm reception. Meanwhile, a runaway slave wants to escape his bonds by reaching the shores of the nation that would not treat him as property - but the journey he attempts is one that is often fatal. A intriguing tale for young adult fantasy fans, "Quest for the Other Kingdom: The First Book of Journeys" is highly recommended for community library young adult fiction collections.
The First Book of Journeys is a book for all ages! May 8, 2008
Linda Settles claims that Quest for the Other Kingdom: The First Book of Journeys is an adventure story--and it is, but it is more than that. As a Christian, and a pastor's wife who has shared the life experiences of many fellow travelors on the Sea of Life, I see this book as an allegory. The characters and their experiences are authentic and insightful. The Messenger is especially dear to me for he reminds me that there is one who will never leave me or forsake me--even when I don't always 'get it right.' Several of my children have read the book and they all loved it--from the ten year old through seventeen. I can't wait for the sequel to come out!First Book of Journeys: Quest for the Other Kingdom (Quest For The Other Kingdom)
