Reviews - What do customers think about Griffin's Daughter (Griffin's Daughter Trilogy) (Griffin's Daughter Trilogy)?

Lovers and Friends!!!!!  Jan 23, 2008
Griffin's Daughter was an awesome read!!!!I couldn't put this book down at all. I loved the dialouge between the characters and the richness and diversity of the characters in the story. Jelena grew and blossomed throughout Griffin's Daughter (but she still has some growing to do and a lot of naivete to get rid of) and I can't wait to see how she changes in the rest of the series. Magnes, her cousin, is left at the end of the book troubled, lost (mentally), and has left his home. I only wish that there was an epilouge showing how his family is dealing with him after he left home. I can't wait to read the rest of this series!!!!!
More of romance novel than fantasy  Dec 30, 2007
This was a light read. Prose was simplistic. Story was not very original- the concept of a nameless evil emerging to conciousness was similar to the Green Rider series. The hero falls in love with the heroine at first sight and they are predestined to be together- not much romantic tension in this approach. Our lovely heroine is predictably destined for greater things and is the illegitimate child of the Elf king working as a scullery maid,ie,Cinderella. However it was quick to read, an easy way to pass a Sunday afternoon as long as you don't expect too much from this book. Explicit sex scenes so I would not recommend it for younger readers.
R-rated But Amateur  Dec 28, 2007
Although this book requires an older audience because of the violence and sexuality depicted, the writing is extremely amateur. I found myself rolling my eyes excessively at the poorly written dialogue and contradicting sentences. The story line is good and I did enjoy reading it, although it seemed to be written by a middle schooler.
A Different Kind of Romance  Dec 25, 2007
Griffin's Daughter, book one of the Griffin's Daughter Trilogy by Leslie Ann Moore, is an enjoyable fantasy set in a tense world where Elves and Humans are about to clash. The social strata of each race are rigidly set--one can be no more or less than what birth would allow. Into this world, a bastard half-human, half-elven girl is born who, for love, challenges the rigid conventions of both peoples.
In her, a terrible magic awakens that could doom both races. And its master wants it back.

Refreshingly, Ms. Moore has chosen to mix the medieval cultures of Japan and Europe in her fantasy world. Though more fantastical than The Tales of the Otori Series, fans of Lian Hearn's work will enjoy Griffin's Daughter as well. I enjoyed Ms. Moore's use of metaphor and simile, as well as small details, to raise the tension in her story and to bring alive a Japanese culture with which I am unfamiliar.

Duke Sebastianus of Veii was not a handsome man, but neither was he ugly. Rather, he had the kind of face that was like a mask--calm on the surface, but hiding something underneath.

Another example.

Jelena fell silent and together, she and Ashinji waited while Sen brooded. The quiet of the sitting room was disturbed only by the little sundry noises that always fill up spaces when there is no conversation to mask them--the sweet tinkle of wind chimes, the distant caw of a raven, the creaks and groans of the castle itself as it settled down more comfortably upon its wooden bones.

Though I would have preferred that Ms. Moore had left out the few expletives that cropped up in the book, her characters stand out for their uniqueness. Additionally, several story lines remain unresolved at the end of the book. This is, after all, the first book of an enjoyable trilogy.
