Valuable reflections Mar 22, 2007
Excellent book... primarily a memoir of events, and collection of insights. It always surprises me that some people from different walks of life and religious experiences have a hard time receiving insight and wisdom from someone else seeking God, yet this book provides the wisdom of seeking God in all details and events of life and not merely settling for 'quiet times' of devotion. An excellent resource for protestants, orthodox and catholic alike as well as others. However be warned that you cannot just read straight through, nearly every paragraph is a large thought in itself.
This book could change your life. Mar 19, 2007
The practice of including God in all you do and walking with Him is something that will change your life for the good. This book is simple and easy to understand. Does not take very long to read and has some great things to share for those of us who want to know God better and experience His presence in all we do while we are on this earth. I highly recommend this book... and the principles it shares.
The secret to your prayer life Mar 12, 2007
If I would to choose one prayer book, this would be the one. Through the years I have purchased many books of prayer, all beautiful in their own way. But, this one is the answer to the question, "how do we pray always." In this gem of a book, Brother Lawrence reveals that a good prayer life is based on what type of relationship we have with Our Lord. By establishing a close and loving relationship with Our Lord, we find prayer comes easy. By including God in every moment of our lives, we draw closer to the one who loves us the most. Simple thoughts throughout the day and doing our daily work with God in mind, draws us closer to that eternal fire of love. This book, in it's simplicity, guides one on the road of friendship and love that we all seek with the eternal God who desires us to be eventually with him in eternity. God is true simplicity, and this book helps us to see God in simplicity, Love.
Learning to walk with God Feb 20, 2007
Reading the book by Brother Lawrence helped me know God a little better. I learned that He desires for us to talk to Him, to commune with Him, every minute of the day. I suppose that is why the Garden of Eden was so precious to Him. He looked forward to walking and talking with Adam.
If Brother Lawrence learned to do it during all his waking hours, well then I guess most all of us aught to be able to do it too, providing we have the faith.
Persistent faith Feb 18, 2007
This is a book of the sayings of an illiterate man in the 1600's who worked his life talking to God in everything he did in order to feel the presence of God. Finally, it happened and this peasant man became filled with such wisdom that he was made a Brother in a monastery and people from all around the area came to him for words of advice. Beautiful reading.
