Item description for In Service to the Nation by Lawrence Rothman...
In Service to the Nation is a book of inspirational prayers and poems to God, about God, for the military, and about the military. Each poem and prayer is meant to show every individual who reads this book that they are not alone. They are watched over, loved, and worried about by God. These prayers and poems are meant to share with all members of the military services, Department of Defense civilians and contractors, and their families, and remind them that God has been, and will always be there for them. All they have to do is turn to Him and acknowledge Him. All military personnel make hard decisions and sacrifices for the good of the country and their families. This happens on a daily basis, both in combat and in their day-to-day duties in peacetime. This book is meant to let each service member know that God understands the struggles they face, and wants to be there for them, to love them as they face these challenges. In Service to the Nation allows God to communicate with the service member and the service member to communicate with God, even if he or she hasnat done it before.

A Powerful and Inspirational Book Jun 13, 2008
Lawrence Rothman, the author of "In Service to the Nation," is an Army veteran who has used his God-given talent to further his service to his country. By writing a book of poetry and prayers, he reaches out to all branches of the military and the brave men and women who willingly make sacrifices for their country. Their families--wives, husbands, children, parents, and friends--suffer throughout the times of separation with anxiety, loneliness, and concern. This occurs whether our country is at war or enjoying a time of comparative peace. The author also mentions Department of Defense civilians and contractors as well as their families.
In reality this book is for everyone and stresses how communication with God can help individuals get through any situation. Just as our military personnel need God's protection, love, and understanding; so do people from all walks of life. Even if readers don't usually read poetry, they will be emotionally drawn to the words of the author. The selections are written in free verse, sometimes with open punctuation and other times with closed, but his true feelings are never hemmed in by forced meter or rhyme. The poetry flows naturally and tells the story of this man's own personal faith and love for God. There is Scripture and prayer throughout the book that is inspiring and appropriate. As I read the written prayers aloud, they became my personal prayers, and I found myself reading some over and over again. I particularly liked the Prayer of Strength which can be found on page 43 and Friend Defined located on page 48. Some of the poetry brought tears to my eyes; all of it made me proud of the military and my country.
I would like to quote a few lines from a selection in this book (page 13) that offers praise to our military:
How dear you are to the hearts of those around you, wherever you are The determination and dedication you give to everything you do The fearlessness with which you handle the uncertainties you confront in Every day of your life Shining as bright as the stars of heaven above Being an inspiration of love to the very goodness of humanity
This book contains additional information and facts that are educational and part of our history as a nation. Although this is a small book, it is very powerful and one that I highly recommend. Buy one for a serviceman, for yourself, and as a gift for someone special.
