Okay when one takes into account that both Phillip and Natalie are in their teens, its hard to believe they produced such a powerful album without help. Yet each track is written exclusively by this brother and sister duo. This first album from LaRue displays the beginnings of an edge and maturity later found in their third album "Reaching". Nonetheless the music is catchy and the lyrics are moving. Natalie's voice seems out of place in one so young, it has a depth and range most older vocalists crave. The lyrics are powerful in some songs and somewhat whimsical in others. "As She Cries" stands out as my absolute favorite on the album, it's impossible not to be moved by the sad melody and awesome lyrics, about the love and peace that is to be found in Jesus. Tracks like "Star" display a sense of independence and a refusal to fit the norm so rare in today's youth. "Someday" stands as a touching song about waiting for the one you love and that God has intended for you. Many artists have attempted to sing about abstinence but this moving track stands out as a powerful statement for waiting for marriage. While this isn't my favorite album by the duo it's still an amazing debut and great start to finish.

I love it! Oct 26, 2003
I absolutely love this CD. I have had it for almost four years now, and I still am not sick of listening to it! (my normal CD listening time is like 3 months) I love every song on the CD. Each song has had personal meaning to my life. I have used several of the songs as part of my devotionals that I give as a camp counselor. Someday has special significance to me, because that song portrays my commitment to God and my future husband in a way that I could never have done. The raw feeling that the bro/sis duo show through their music makes it feel real. Some song on this CD would be to anyone's life. The musicality of the CD is AWESOME too! I love their voices, and they have a great blend. Once again, I love it!
Great CD!!!! Mar 24, 2002
I like every single song on this album. They are beautiful, meaningful songs. Unlike some singers, who just gab away about nothing at all, and whose lyrics make absolutely no sense. I love the way they harmonize. If you don't get this album, you'll be dissapointed!
Brother-Sister Act Dec 18, 2001
Brother and Sister Phillip and Natalie LaRue are definitely a daimond in the rough. Their tunes are unique, and their use of harmony is daring. Their vocal style could be compared to Jewell, or other similar artists. All in all, it's a great CD. 1. Reason- the first song on their first CD, also their first single. Shows the need for God in a desperately lonely world. Harmony is pretty cool, and the words are powerful. 2. Picture Frame- Philip and Natalie blend so well in this song that it's very hard to tell their voices apart. The harmony is also very unique. This is one of the more upbeat songs. Great guitar on this song. 3. Someday- powerful lyrics. Natalie sings solo on this one. This song talks about the need of absinence, and the love that she feels for her future husband. The lyrics and music are as compelling as Natalie's voice. 4. Fallen King- great harmony and melody in this one. The words talk about how even the strongest person can stumble and needs God, and the person who seems to have it all is really as lost as the person who seems to have nothing. 5. As She Cries- sad lyrics. This song talks about the sadness that a girl feels and the dreams that she's given up on. This talks about how God loves her, and will always love her, even in the hard times. This is actually a very comforting song. Great blending by Phil and Nat. 6. Waiting Room- Ah, the wonderful reminder that the world is not our permanent home. Talks about being "in the world, but not of the world" Great guitar (did I mention that Phillip is the one who plays the guitar?) Nice change of moods, awesome harmony. Their voices blend really well in this song. 7. Always Be- this song talks about frienship. Kind of a retro-sound to this one, and definitely not as corny as many friendship songs (such as Michael W. Smith's FRIENDS). Talks about how to be a good friend, and that if your a friend once, you really can't lose that special bond, and you're a friend forever. Very retro. Kinda almost hippie-ish. 8. One Day of the Week- Condemns two-lifestyle of being a Christian on Sunday, but forgetting about your commitment to God the rest of the time. Very compelling lyrics. Great harmony, as always, and they blend well with the background vocals. Also, some great guitar and drums. 9. Katie- a rather mysterious song. The closest thing to a love song on this CD, save "Someday". Great harmony! I really love the tune on this song. The guitar is great. 10. Stars- Great song! A bit of a Latin flare in the guitar, and a lot more of a "pop" feel. Talks about the warped mentality of "superstars" and their constant need for perfection. Promotes a sense of individuality that you don't see in many artists. Really weird (but cool) vocals on this. Pretty cool effects. 11. Run To You (The Piano Song)- Great song. Talks about God's willingness to help you in your difficult times. Natalies vocals on this are great, and the piano is so beautiful. Did I mention that Phillip and Natalie write their own songs? Really, this CD is great! It's one of my favorites, and if you're looking to buy for yourself, or your kids, or friends...or whatever...it's just and awesome CD. Definitely go for it! <><
