Excellent reference for first course Nov 17, 2007
This book was recommended by my graduate advisor, and it is a great "first place" to go for an introduction to the subject. Other books in the field tend to be more advanced, assuming the reader has a firm grasp of the mathematical preliminaries and concepts of stress and strain in nonlinear applications. In addition, Taber works through examples relevant to problems in biomechanics, although I was hoping for examples with surface (shell) geometries. Regardless, I do highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a good place to start in this challenging field.
