Item description for Breaking the Surface: Inviting God Into the Shallows and the Depths of Your Mind by Vicki Kuyper...
Overview Breaking the Surface, shows readers through personal examples and biblical stories how to use their five senses as a way of developing a more consistent, peaceful, and deeper relationship with their heavenly father. With a fresh approach of using “touchstones”, readers will begin to recognize the usefulness of physical reminders as triggers to set their thoughts on God, and the things of God.
Publishers Description The opportunity for spiritual depth this book provides will foster in readers a desire to spend more consistent time in prayer. As a result, readers will begin to experience a sense of renewal and peace. More importantly, readers will gain a deeper understanding of how to become touchstones for others--"living stones" that point the way toward Jesus. Others around them will be impacted as they see the change in the reader who has been challenged to sort the precious from the worthless in their lives.

A Book to Help You Go Deeper with God Aug 19, 2009
Vicki Kuyper is an amazing writer. She shares meaningful thoughts with the reader yet never loses her sense of humor. If you get the chance, read any or all of her books for a lovely experience where mind, spirit, and soul merge. In Breaking the Surface, she shares how "God is a slippery fish" and yet He "is not a project." I like that--and so identified with her examples. She writes, "I never meditate on things above alone. My rumination is a running conversation with God." At the end of each chapter she offers "Deep 'C' Fishing" where you can dive deeper with God, engaging all your God-given mental capacities to enjoy the relationship. Kuyper writes, "God's character may be as unchanging as a rock, but that doesn't make Him boring." Yes!
