Overview Created for both individual and group use, each of the six weekly sections features key passages along with related questions that encourage adults to explore the Bible for themselves and learn how it applies to their daily lives. This guide is designed for busy adults wishing to deepen their relationships with God and strengthen their understanding of Scripture.
Publishers Description The story of creation can be difficult to understand if we do not read it properly. "Genesis 1-11: God Makes a Start "helps Bible-study participants put the creation story in its proper historical, cultural, and theological contexts, and goes beyond the story of creation to discuss the first sin and God's starting over with the flood. In the end, we come to see the story of creation--and re-creation--as part of God's ongoing story with us today.
A Guided Discovery of the Bible The Bible invites us to explore God's word and reflect on how we might respond to it. To do this, we need guidance and the right tools for discovery. The Six Weeks with the Bible series of Bible discussion guides offers both in a concise six-week format. Whether focusing on a specific biblical book or exploring a theme that runs throughout the Bible, these practical guides in this series provide meaningful insights that explain Scripture while helping readers make connections to their own lives. Each guide- is faithful to Church teaching and is guided by sound biblical scholarship - presents the insights of Church fathers and saints - includes questions for discussion and reflection - delivers information in a reader-friendly format - gives suggestions for prayer that help readers respond to God's word - appeals to beginners as well as to advanced students of the Bible By reading Scripture, reflecting on its deeper meanings, and incorporating it into our daily life, we can grow not only in our understanding of God's word, but also in our relationship with God.

More About Kevin Perrotta
Most of my writing tries to help ordinary people understand the Bible and read it as God's word for today. In the 1990's I worked as editor of a magazine with a title that matches that intention: God's Word Today. Then, into the 2000's, I wrote and edited a series of short books called Six Weeks with the Bible (from Loyola Press). Each of these is designed for six sessions of reflection and discussion on a part of Scripture (for example, the gospel of Luke) or a theme in Scripture (for example, Finding Christ in Your Marriage--I wrote that one with my wife Louise). Lately I have been working as an editor on a series of books called Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture (from Baker Academic Press).
Besides writing and editing, I teach Scripture part time. At present I'm teaching an introduction to the Old Testament in Siena Heights University's program in theological studies for the Catholic diocese of Lansing, Michigan. Also, I'm teaching a course on the gospels at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit.
I've led pilgrimages to the Holy Land and am planning to lead another in the fall of 2010.
Church membership: I belong to the Byzantine wing of the Catholic Church.
Family: I have six wonderful children and fifteen absolutely marvelous grandchildren.
