Reviews - What do customers think about Lourdes Today: A Pilgrimage to Mary's Grotto?
A spiritual pilgrimage to Lourdes Feb 20, 2008
This well-crafted book gives the reader a great insight into the meaning and message of Lourdes. Crawford gives the history of the apparitions and situates them within Scripture and Catholic Tradition.
However, the greatest value of this book is that it leads the reader on a spiritual pilgrimage. For those who can't travel to the shrine, Crawford brings Lourdes to them. She does so through the witness of many people - the great and the lowly - who have been touched, converted, healed, encouraged, or strengthen through contact with Lourdes and its message.
Excellent Portrayal of Lourdes' Relevance Today Feb 3, 2008
Kerry Crawford's book takes readers on pilgrimage deep into the heart, mind and soul of Lourdes. She paints a compelling picture of contemporary pilgrims: lay and clerical, old and young, patients and volunteer caregivers. Through their voices, readers share the Lourdes experience: They follow the footsteps of St. Bernadette, see the light in the grotto, bathe in the healing waters, and walk in the candlelight procession. Most importantly, Crawford has captured Lourdes' spirit of compassion and deep respect for the sick and suffering. She describes the many miracles, not only healings certified as such but many `unofficial blessings, graces asked and received. For Crawford and many other pilgrims, Lourdes is a life changing journey.
The rich details of Crawford's book will tell prospective Lourdes pilgrims exactly what to expect. Past visitors to Lourdes will enjoy reliving their experiences. For armchair travelers, she offers a compelling testament to the transforming power of faith and charity in today's hectic, self absorbed world.
"Lourdes Today" is beautifully written. I couldn't put it down.
