In RT's own words... Our premise is this. It seems to us that there has been a ‘silent divorce’ in the church, speaking generally, between the Word and the Spirit. When there is a divorce, some children stay with the mother, some stay with the father.
In this divorce, there are those on the ‘word’ side and those on the ‘Spirit’ side. What is the difference?
Take those of us who represent the Word. Our message is this: we must earnestly contend for the faith ‘once delivered unto the saints’ (Jude 3), we need get back to expository preaching, sound doctrine such as justification by faith, the sovereignty of God and the internal testimony of the Spirit as taught by men like Martin Luther, John Calvin and Jonathan Edwards. What is wrong with this emphasis? Nothing. It is exactly right.
Take those whose emphasis has been on the Holy Spirit. What is the message? We need to rediscover the power that was manifested in the Book of Acts, there needs to be a demonstration of signs, wonders and miracles; we need to see the gifts of the Spirit operating in the church – that the world will once again take notice of the church so that people are left without excuse. What is wrong with this emphasis? Nothing. It is exactly right.
We believe that the need of the hour is not one or the other – but both! It is our view that this simultaneous combination will result in spontaneous combustion! And then, but almost certainly only then, will the world be shaken once again by the message of the church.
This was the message I have preached over the years at Westminster Chapel in London. This is what we are endeavoring to preach in America and around the world. This is not all we preach but it is certainly one of the main things we preach alongside the need for total forgiveness and learning to be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. We need your prayers. God bless you.

GREAT READ. Get Ready for the unexpected. In a day of buzz theology and what some would give as pat answers to some of life's tough spots; "When God Shows Up" may change the way you expect the Creator of all to break into the areas you least expect Him to and the ways He comes to us.
Surprise Encounters, Powerful Revelations, Recognizing God's Presence Dec 2, 2008
R.T. Kendall, pastor of Westminster Chapel in London, believes that God shows up in many different ways and at unexpected times. His book "When God Shows Up" prepares the reader to recognize unexpected appearances of God. This is a book about the renewed life and blessing the Holy Spirit is bringing into the corporate church body as well as to individual believers today.
Kendall uses examples from the scriptures and from his own life experiences to illustrate how to listen to God, how to know what He is has stated, and to know how to respond to what He said.
Answered prayer, God's timing, and visiting angels are important preparation for this journey into the unexpected. Elizabeth and Zechariah usher in the joy of and unexpected surprise from a direct answer to their prayer for a son. Abraham, Joseph, and Moses are all examples of answered prayers based on God's timing and relate how angels revealed God's surprising plan for them. Kendall shows pitfalls we can avoid as we seek to be aware of God's timing in seeing answers to our prayers and to recognize His unexpected appearances.
Trials, temptations, enforced learning, and encountering the devil are all a part of the discipline necessary to cherish those unexpected appearances of God in your life.
The final chapters of the book discuss unexpected disruption, barriers to fellowship with God, accepting God's call, the prophetic word, success, witness, and the second coming of Christ.
"When God Shows Up" has given me a sense of expectancy, as I pray, look for answered prayer, draw nearer to God, listen for His instructions, meet strangers that may be angels unaware, and as I look heavenward for the return of Jesus. R. T. Kendal captures the longing of man for an intimacy with God, and the love of God who provided the means for that relationship through the gift of His Son Jesus.
