More About R. T. Kendall
Dr. R. T. Kendall, renowned pastor and author, spent 25 years as senior minister of the historic Westminster Chapel in London. He has authored numerous bestselling books, conducts conferences all over the world and is a columnist for "Ministry Today". He lives with his wife, Louise, near Nashville, Tennessee.
In RT's own words... Our premise is this. It seems to us that there has been a ‘silent divorce’ in the church, speaking generally, between the Word and the Spirit. When there is a divorce, some children stay with the mother, some stay with the father.
In this divorce, there are those on the ‘word’ side and those on the ‘Spirit’ side. What is the difference?
Take those of us who represent the Word. Our message is this: we must earnestly contend for the faith ‘once delivered unto the saints’ (Jude 3), we need get back to expository preaching, sound doctrine such as justification by faith, the sovereignty of God and the internal testimony of the Spirit as taught by men like Martin Luther, John Calvin and Jonathan Edwards. What is wrong with this emphasis? Nothing. It is exactly right.
Take those whose emphasis has been on the Holy Spirit. What is the message? We need to rediscover the power that was manifested in the Book of Acts, there needs to be a demonstration of signs, wonders and miracles; we need to see the gifts of the Spirit operating in the church – that the world will once again take notice of the church so that people are left without excuse. What is wrong with this emphasis? Nothing. It is exactly right.
We believe that the need of the hour is not one or the other – but both! It is our view that this simultaneous combination will result in spontaneous combustion! And then, but almost certainly only then, will the world be shaken once again by the message of the church.
This was the message I have preached over the years at Westminster Chapel in London. This is what we are endeavoring to preach in America and around the world. This is not all we preach but it is certainly one of the main things we preach alongside the need for total forgiveness and learning to be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. We need your prayers. God bless you.
Reviews - What do customers think about Thorn In The Flesh?
Book Review Mar 18, 2008
I purchased this book for a writting assignment I had for my Seminary class. I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of discussion on Paul's particular thorn. I expected Kendall to elaborate on this text more than he did. That being said, Kendall did a great job highlighting the important aspects of the text and offering insights regarding modern day "thorns" that believers must face.
All around, I would recommend this book. It would be a great tool for sermon preparation or paper writting. It would even make for good leisure reading.
Helpful Advice!!! Nov 4, 2007
This book gives you practical ways to improve your life. It touches on various topics that we all struggle with. R.T. Kendall also teaches from a biblical viewpoint to enlighten us on God's masterful way of handling problems and situations that are meant to help us grow. The thorn in the flesh is usually there for a reason and a season, and that is what the book conveys.

Not what I expected Apr 1, 2007
I have nothing against tv evangalistic programs, yet I didn't expect this book to be a TBN release.
I loved it. Jan 17, 2006
This is a great book. Once I started reading it I could not put it down until I finished it. It is very true and scriptural. Christians need to stop this rose garden mentality. Life is not all prosperity and blessing. Sometimes it takes a thorn in the flesh to get to the blessing. We have to go through things. It is how we learn and grow and become the people God created us to become. Not all sickness and disease is from Satan, people give him to much glory. God is always in control. He does allow things to happen; for reasons we may not find out until we get to the other side. When we get to heaven, I believe we are all going to be surprised at what we thought we knew and what we actually did know. This is a wonderful book and may help you to realize why things you've hoped and prayed for have not yet changed. They may never change, but his grace is sufficient.

I would like to thank everyone who has left a bad review for this book. It's no wonder so many people are suffering within the Church. This is one of the worst books ever written.
