More About Ken Tanner

Register your artisan biography and upload your photo! Ken Tanner began his career scrubbing dishes in the back of a Pizza Hut, eventually becoming the youngest manager in that chain's history. What followed was a 20-year career in the hospitality industry that included management of hotels, owning a dinner theater, and serving as a regional vice president for two of the nation's biggest restaurant chains. This phase of his career featured dramatic customer-service turnarounds, record low employee turnover rates, and the development of dozens of industry leaders. Ken is especially proud of the number of women he helped advance into executive positions. Ken founded a human resources consulting firm in 1995. Initially focused on recruiting, Ken now uses his expertise to help companies build teamwork and retain employees. Ken is the author of five other business books on team-building and careers, including Recruiting Excellence and TheBoomer's Career Survival Guide. He can be reached at kentanner@consultant.com.

Reviews - What do customers think about Never Order Barbecue in Maine: Proven Career Strategies from People Who've Been There, Done That?

This book may not be what you are expecting it to be.  Jan 2, 2007
I was disappointed with this book - it is not a bad read, but was not what I expected it to be.

The title of the book is "Never Order Barbecue in Maine" and from the excerpts I read online and the blurb, I thought this book would help me figure out what I am really good at to guide me into the right career path (I'm a graduating Masters student). This was touched on only VERY briefly.

I was also expecting this book to have an entrepreneurial bent, but it was instead solidly focused on being a good employee and working up the food chain. Perhaps I just got the wrong end of the stick here, but I was disappointed nevertheless.
