Preaparing for Minsitry...Read this first! Aug 17, 2006
I would strongly encourage missionaries and anyone preparing for full-time Christian ministry to read this book, before going to the mission field. Often as missioanries are preparing to go to the field there are areas of their life that emerge that need to be changed by God. Sadly, we often do not know where to begin this process! Also, during that transition stage from their home to host culture it seems like we all strugle even more with issues of security, belonging, purpose and identity. The principles Kathy presents would be a great pre-field training tool for missionaries, helping them develop a plan for allowing God to change their lives. And once God starts the process they will be ready to help others experience transformation! The principles in Kathy's book are transferable to any culture! So missioaries can also use this book as a resource tool for ministry in any culture where they will be serving. Applying the principles of Kathy's book to your life will make you a more effective missionary, pastor, teacher and servant of God!
A Message for All Faiths Jun 16, 2005
Many faith-based books today are somewhat disparaging towards those who believe differently than the author. Not so with Dr. Koch's book! She provides a powerful example of how life's fundamental questions can be answered positively - with great joy and love, and without condemnation - from the perspective of a devout Christian. I wish that all people of faith would exhibit her spirituality and acceptance, take "the high road", and communicate similar inspirational messages of hope and optimism to the world. I think this is what Jesus had in mind, don't you?
A "Must Read" for People Interested in Personal Growth Jun 5, 2005
OK, another book with a catchy title and a subtitle offering quite a promise: "5 Questions that will change your life."
But I was hooked. Having now completed the book and looked back through it several times, I can tell you that I've not been disappointed. Dr. Koch has delivered on her promise!
As a parent of four young adults, a grandparent, and pastor, I read this volume often wondering aloud, "Where was Dr. Koch and this book thirty years ago? I could have really used her wise insights and very practical suggestions in both my personal and professional life over the years."
I heartily commend this work. You will not read through it and be unaffected. It will definitely challenge your personal growth in significant areas of your life.
Kathy's mom recommends it! Jun 3, 2005
When I sent my children off to elementary school (a few years ago) I told them to "think and listen." Now, my daughter, Kathy has written this book with an entirely new and better concept for listening and learning. My friends (now grandparents) wish we had her message a generation ago. I, obviously, highly recommend this book! -Kathy's Mom
Just what I needed Mar 22, 2005
What a book! I was searching for something in my life not relly knowing what. I found "Finding Authentic Hope & Wholeness by Dr. Kathy Koch. This sounded like something I could use so read it. What an impact. The section on core needs - competence, purpose, belonging, identity, and security really reached out to what I was looking for. The book gave some great life skills such as how to make decisions, how to love, how to choose, make and keep friends, how to change and how to forgive. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is searching for something more in their lives. Timmie Mosley
