Item description for Bellowing in the Common by Karl Petersen & George McWhirter...
Overview Petersen's poetry shows how the mundane--whether it be a boat rocking at the dock or a garden squash--often rings with a voice louder and more startling than the extraordinary. (Poetry)
Publishers Description Bellowing in the Common is Karl Petersen's first book. This collection "bellows" on behalf of the unheard things and people. Unheard and unseen, because they are too ordinary and common for human perception. His poetry shows how the mundane -- whether it be a boat rocking at the dock or a garden squash -- often rings with a voice louder and more startling than the extraordinary, if only we have ears to hear. Karl Petersen hears a bellowing in the common and, with a true poet's vocation, awakens us with new ears to the same old tunes.

Reviews - What do customers think about Bellowing in the Common?
A Wonderful Read Dec 4, 2002
Petersen's raw, rare and spare style gets you right down to earth and into the elements after only two or three pages. Very accessible by the both the simple and learned. His work is a delightful combination of whimsy, word play, simple wisdom and mind bending realism. He takes you on kayak trips through the coastal waters of the Pacific, then into the heart of West Coast urban terrain, always vibrant with detail, characters and an earthy spirituality.
It will reconnect you to all that's essential. Go get it!
