Item description for Karl Lagerfeld: Metamorphoses of an American by Karl Lagerfeld...

In Metamorphoses of an American, Karl Lagerfeld documents the physical and emotional development of Brad Kroenig, the world's most sought-after male model, ranked number one at at the time of this printing. Lagerfeld discovered Kroenig in 2003, making his first photographs of the young man in Biarritz; since then, he has diligently observed Kroenig through the photographic lens, month by month. Since the time of this first Lagerfeld photo shoot, Kroenig has been featured in almost every major designer's advertising campaign and/or fashion shows--including Lagerfeld, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Justin Cavalli, Perry Ellis and Fendi--and on almost every fashion magazine cover. In this volume, through hundreds of photographs taken inside and outside the world of fashion, Lagerfeld explores Kroenig's evolution from a young "All-American Boy" into a professional model, a man conscious of the subtleties of facial and corporeal expression. However, these photographs are not simply documentation; rather, Lagerfeld and Kroenig always work together to create a new persona, one which Kroenig projects without losing a sense of his own self. Lagerfeld selects a spectrum of literary and cultural references for Kroenig to interpret: we see him as James Dean, as Rudolph Valentino, as a Gatsby-like figure from F. Scott Fitzgerald, and as Lieutenant Pinkerton from Puccini's Madame Butterfly. Throughout these transformations, one never has the sense that Kroenig is merely acting; instead he presents newly discovered aspects of himself through the guises of other characters.

Reviews - What do customers think about Karl Lagerfeld: Metamorphoses of an American?

perfect packaging but somehow non-justifying content.....  Jul 23, 2008
1/. this book does prove again that the model Brad Kroenig is extremely photogenic.
2/. the content inside this book doesn't justify the power from the gallery exhibition where it got its title from, a slightly larger size may be?
3/. mr lagerfeld is definitely not a very good/precise photographer (not to mention the technical side) rather than an artist instead. however u can definitely felt the intense emotion the photographer had on the subject earlier in the project.
4/. Same as I felt from the gallery exhibition, the photographer was never very honest about what he sees, u can see this when he was doing all these full frontal nude with the genital smuched. WHY SHOW THESE SHOOTS INSTEAD when u can do an obscured nude instead. In which I guess, is exactly why the photo looks a bit tired sometimes, TOO 1950s, TOO familiar and NOT UP TO DATE at all. can't imagine if mr lagerfeld was using the same mentality on his fashion design business, but again, working as a team leader and working as an individual is always a completely different story I guess......
CONCLUSION: Perfect for giving away as Christmas / birthday gift but probably not for collecting. the visionaire Emperor's New Clothes issue is better in those aspects.....
