Item description for Summit by Karen Rispin...

Overview
Julie has loved rock climbing for as long as she can remember. What's more, she's good at it. Very good. So it only seems natural for her to do all she can to make a career out of it. But it's not easy. Not when there is so much resistance to women guides in the field ... and not when macho know-it-alls like David Hales keep showing up--and showing her up! Sure, David is internationally recognized. Sure, he's won competitions and awards. But that doesn't mean he's better than she is. All she has to do is convince her boss ... and herself. But what Julie doesn't know is that David isn't out to take her job. As a matter of fact, he's got something much different in mind ... something that has nothing to do with jobs or even rock climbing--and everything to do with love and faith in God.

Reviews - What do customers think about Summit?

Cute but predictable  Apr 11, 2007
I read this cute little book in one sitting. While I did enjoy it, you could tell that... it just didn't sparkle and shine enough for five stars. The plot was easily predictable; I caught onto the poachers from the start. The characters to me were kinda boring and not worth the emotional investment. And the budding relationship between Julie and David just happened way too fast. Characters that "fall in love" through thinking about each other all day followed by casual conversation, and decide to get married without REALLY getting to know each other is forced and ridiculous. I was also turned off by the fact that Julie felt it was her lot in life to be single. I wanted to read a romance, and that's not very romantic. Also, there was a little too much description with the how-to's of rock climbing, and too much insight into various families. I found myself scanning one page or another when the author delved into some things that had nothing to do with the plot.

I started out liking the writing style of the author, and I still do. I plan to read her next Palisades book "AFRICAN SKIES." I just hope that Karen Rispin honed up a little so that in her next book, the characters will be a little more complex and the plot won't be so completely see-through. Don't get me wrong, I really did like the book. But the author could have stepped up a few notches to make this book "great" instead of just settling with "good."

Excellent!  Jan 17, 2000
I really enjoyed this book. My friends kept urging me to read Palisades, but I just wasn't interested in reading them until I read the back of Summit. I promptly read it and really enjoyed it. I am now working my way through the other twenty or so Palisades that they have.

Wonderful romance about Canadian rock climbers.  Apr 7, 1999
I really loved this book. Julie loves rock climbing but thinks that she'd have to give it up and become a "normal" wife if she ever married. So, she's prepared to be an old maid until she meets David. Eventually, David shows her that she can serve God even while pursuing her love of the outdoors.
