Will she walk away from everything, or can Maggie allow God to take her to a place of ultimate honesty--before it's too late? Maggie Stovall. One of the golden people. She has it all together. At least on the surface... Ben Stovall. Godly husband. Successful attorney. Has no idea of the darkness about to overtake his life... Amanda Joy. Child of society. Abused, broken, thrown away. But her trust in God is still alive... " When Joy Came to Stay" is the heart-wrenching story of one woman's descent into the shadows of depression, her husband's search for understanding, and a precious child's unwavering faith.
"Kingsbury's poignant tale of a lost and broken family and how they experience God's miraculous healing is a sure guarantee to bring hope and joy to her readers." "--Melody Carlson, bestselling author, Diary of a Teenage Girl series " "A thought-provoking account of the battle of depression in a believer's life. It leaves no doubt that God is loving, merciful, and faithful." "--Nancy Moser, author, The Mustard Seed series " Story Behind the Book "Each of my novels is a piece of my heart. "Where Yesterday Lives" was my first-ever novel, and as such it is somewhat autobiographical. The childhood story of Ellen Barrett, her love for her parents and siblings, is my story--though her current story and struggles are fictional. "On Every Side "sheds light on the struggle for religious freedom in today's climate; something I am passionate about. Finally, "When Joy Came to Stay" is the story of one woman's battle against depression and the secrets of her past." --Karen Kingsbury

When Good Comes from Evil, It's Time to Celebrate! Jun 27, 2007
Karen Kingsbury has the unique ability to write novels, using real life situations in a away that brings attention to issues that oftentime we, the public, try not to face. "When Joy Came to Stay" is about a child in foster care, which is one of those issues many of us try to ignore. Having worked eight years at a counseling clinic, I saw many foster children come in for psychological evaluations. Some had caring foster parents, some did not. Some became available for adoption, many were returned to the unstable home they were rescued from, only to be abused again, some to the point of death. Others were moved from foster home to foster home to foster home. The story of Amanda Joy is indeed, true-to-life. This book gives the good and the sad side of things that actually occur to these little children. Thank goodness that while the author allowed the readers to cry over the mistreatment this little girl received, she brought out the good things, too. While we know in real life all these cases may not have many good incidents, hopefully some who read this book will be moved to help more unfortunate little children be led to that caring social worker and/or other kind people who will give them hope, as Amanda Joy received. This is a book you'll find difficult to put down until you're read the last page. Even then, you'll find yourself just sitting there, not wanting to let the moment go.
Wonderful! Jun 2, 2007
This was a wonderfully inspiring book for anyone who has suffered with depression especially when it is due to a regrettable life choice. I found it very healing and is a great reminder to lean on God during those hard times in your life.

Never before have I read a book that could encourage my faith and be enthralling at the same time. I read this book in now time flat! Karen talks about real life issues that face everyone, even "good Christians" and deals with them in a way that is God-pleasing. Awesome way to stay in the Word even while reading fiction!
