Publishers Description "Healing From Childhood Abuse" captures the journey back-to-life of a survivor of chronic childhood abuse and the unbearable pain, terror, desolation, and despair imprisoned within and experienced throughout by her other "Sides" and their many lives. "The Howl" broke through the walls of denial, insanity, destruction, betrayal, and deception as it forcefully catapulted itself from her body too many years later to count. The "Doom" began to lift after a lifetime of anticipated dread. By the grace of God, she didn't die. Miraculously, those little ones' voices trapped inside are being expressed and coming alive as part of her. As they share their lives (memories) with each other and acknowledge and process those truths, they become more "Fluid Emotions" ready for integration and a chance at a more manageable, functional life understanding peace, joy, and freedom. This book may help others "hang in there" a little longer as they trudge through "Hell" having faith they too will survive, find their voices, know they matter, become empowered, and experience hope from the darkness. We are NOT alone.

Reviews - What do customers think about Healing from Childhood Abuse: We Have a Voice Now; My Sides and Their Journey Back to Life; Poems Reflecting My Many Lives?
When healing should be kept to one's self and not shared.... Nov 26, 2005
I'd give this 0 or negative stars if I could. I could not finish even one of these "poems". This read far more like someone's emotional diaharrea than poetry. I have to agree with the other reviewer's assessment of amateurish poetry and a completely lack of cohesiveness and editing. I couldn't even bring myself to put this up for resale - I had to chuck it. Please don't waste your money.

This is a collection of amateurish poetry written by a woman recovering from DID. It is of little or no help to fellow survivors. I felt like I was reading her diary, with no editing or cohesiveness. Apparently, each of her identities uses a different font, some barely legible. Fortunately, none of them write in WingDing.

Healing From Childhood Abuse is a "must read" for anyone struggling to survive the devastating effects and the life-long consequences of childhood abuse. This book should be "required" reading for the friends and loved ones standing alongside a "survivor," attempting to understand, to have compassion, and give loving support. The constant struggle that the author faces shows that the greatest challenge for a survivor of childhood abuse is to make it through just one more day free from negative emotions, from pain and fear, and from the hate and rage that could strangle and destroy their personal lives if allowed to flourish. You may find yourself in tears at the intensity of Julie's poetic journey "back-to-life." For myself, Julie's struggle also brought out anger-a righteous anger at those who are capable of hurting dear innocent children; which to me is an ultimate epitome of evil in our society. You will feel a sense of compassion and respect for this author, who miraculously found a way out of the mire in which she was unwilling enmeshed, by searching and reaching deep down inside to find that she held an awesome power with which to manifest the negative within into a wonderful life-changing positive-to finally realize that she is "not alone." Healing From Childhood Abuse shows that the search for truth along with a solid foundation of faith will ultimately bring one on the road to healing. The public needs to be educated to how devastating the trauma of childhood abuse is and the long-range behavioral and emotional effects it has on a child's life-Julie Martin's book will both educate and bring hope to the hurting!
