Reviews - What do customers think about The Honey Bee Dance?
Completing misleading book, do not purchase! Oct 12, 2007
I WAS looking for a book to describe the honeybee dance to children. From the title, subtitle, and picture on the cover, I thought this would work for me. NOT! To quote the introduction inside the book -- "There is a double purpose in these lessons. FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT is to teach children what the Bible says and to apply it to their lives.....These lessons have been prepared with the morning worship hour in mind, but they may be used any time there is opportunity for Christian education of children."
Although my local community is Christian, as a beekeeper I deal with clients of many faiths. Although the technical beekeeping details in it are correct, I cannot offer a book that preaches that one faith over another alongside my honey cookbooks. (Although if you want a good book on religious views of bees, try The Sacred Bee - it offers viewpoints from many different religions, and I DO offer it alongside my honey cookbooks!)
Title Misleading Jul 13, 2007
Unfortunetly I did not read the review already posted to learn that this book is not really about bees. I was looking for a book to help me teach kids about bees, not Jesus. The author should have put something in the title to let people know what the book is really about. I think that is what titles are for. I'm returning the book.
Perfect for Sunday School or homeschooling May 12, 2004
I was a little surprised when I received this book as it was not quite what I expected. I expected it to teach about honey bees. To provide a little more detail about this booklet, the author uses the honey bee to teach children about the Bible. She uses the honey bee as a metaphor for the life of a Christian. It is six lessons and perfect for a Sunday school class or Vacation Bible School. The lessons covered are Bee Kind, Bee Tenderhearted, etc. There are some very good moral lessons. There are full lesson plans which include scripture, visual aides needed (such as honey, beeswax, etc), advance preparations (making copies) and the actual script for the lesson so it is very easy for a teacher to use this program with little or no advance training. Then she has coloring pages, puzzles, and interesting information that the leader is meant to copy for each child. When I purchased this, I did not realize that it was a Christian teaching guide and probably teaches more about Christ than it does bees although she includes quite a bit of interesting and educational information about honey bees. My family keeps beehives and I thought it would be more centered around beehives and beekeeping so I had no idea what I was actually purchasing and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. I would say that it would be great for early elementary grades. I plan on using this in my homeschool. I think it is very well written and very interesting.
