Item description for Yoga Abs: Moving from Your Core by Judith Lasater...
Overview A creative approach to yoga focuses attention on the abs, presenting a series of exercises, poses, and breathing exercises that focus on both the philosophical and anatomical properties of the abdomen. Original.
A unique vocabulary exists that ascribes a variety of emotions to the belly: "my guts are in a knot," "I knew it in my gut," "gut-wrenching," and "no guts, no glory." Yet too often, more emphasis is placed on the way the abdomen looks than how it feels and functions - a sterling six-pack can mask true abdominal trouble. Yoga Abs outlines a series of exercises, yoga poses (asana), and breathing practices designed to achieve optimal health for this crucial area, which houses the organs of both digestion and procreation. Drawing on her experience as a yoga instructor and physical therapist, Judith Hanson Lasater discusses the anatomy and philosophical aspects of the abdomen and offers a set of movements that create awareness of important muscles while developing and maintaining abdominal strength. Each exercise and asana lists the props or supports needed, safety guidelines, and practice instructions, and the book includes practical guidelines for moving mindfully through everyday tasks.

You can count on it being a good item when it is put out by Judith Hanson Lasater
inexpensive for a reason Jul 8, 2007
I usually enjoy Lasater's books. My teacher training required us to have one of them, and I found it useful, this book to me was a waste of a perfectly good this site gift certificate. There was no new information, it reitterated all of the information I already knew, and I found it did not actually hold that many asanas, ie: stand tall and raise your leg out in front of you to strengthen the psoas - kind of like padangusthasana, but honestly - I already knew this - and several other modifications of poses. I guess I just had high hopes of more complex series. This is a book best for the layperson with little knowledge of anatomy and yoga who needs help to figure some things out.
Yoga is a Great Toner ! Dec 6, 2006
I'm a big fan of yoga for all-over body fitness - mind, body, and spirit. This book presents great yoga poses for strengthening the body's core. A companion book to this one is Mary El-Baz's "Transform Your Core 6-Week Workbook."
