Juan de Mena (1411-1456). Espaa. Naci en Crdoba. Parece que fue nieto del seor de Almenara Ruy Fernndez de Pealosa y su padre fue Pedrarias, regidor o jurado de Crdoba. Tras iniciar estudios all, los termin en Salamanca (1434). En esa ciudad conoci al cardenal Torquemada, con el que viaj a Florencia en 1441 y a Roma. Tras regresar a Castilla en 1443, sirvi a Juan II como secretario de cartas latinas. Poco despus el monarca lo nombr cronista oficial. Mena muri en Torrelaguna de una pulmona. Laberinto de fortuna, es su obra maestra. Es un poema alegrico dedicado a Juan II. Influido Lucano, Virgilio y Dante, est escrito en verso dodecaslabo y casi trescientas coplas de arte mayor. El poema relata el peso de la Providencia en la vida humana y en el destino de Castilla.
