From Publishers Weekly There's nothing new or earthshattering about Meyer's latest self-help book for Christians, but naysayers may be won over by her can-do attitude despite the unoriginal content. A bestselling author and Bible teacher with a popular daily television program, Meyer wants readers to be happynot because they have enjoyable circumstances, perfect health, fat wallets or other enviable externals, but simply because they choose to be happy. Happiness, according to Meyer, is a decision to trust in God's power, not merely in the power of one's own positive thinking. (She does, however, emphasize the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and surrounding oneself with others who do the same.) In short chapters, she discusses issues like habits, discipline, simplicity, creativity and health. She helpfully distinguishes between being busy and being "fruitful," urging readers to embrace fruitfulness and productivity. As with her other books, each chapter opens with a joke or light anecdote, then delves a little deeper with biblical examples and stories from Meyer's life, including her recovery from sexual abuse and her own struggles to be happy. Reviews - What do customers think about Secret To True Happiness?
This book is awesome! Nov 16, 2009
Our women's group at church is meeting each week using this book and Joyce Myers' topics chapter by chapter! She addresses issues that we all are constantly confronted with in our lives on a daily basis. She helps us to put into perspective our lives in respect to God's wishes for us apposed to worldly standards. Many times the two conflict. In other words, the world places value on things unimportant to the standards of our Lord's. Joyce explains this in a way that is easy to comprehend. As we are driven to do more, earn more, have more and in the process we're loosing site of what really matters, spending quality time with our children, helping out our neighbors, being there for our aging parents, being good christian examples for others to witness and follow. I already plan on reading it again later (after we finish our class). I have many excellent points highlighted or underlined. I am recommending it to my adult daughters to read as well as all of you! Read & learn to enjoy a fuller & purer life!
Helpful and readable, yet not as good as 21 ways to finding peace and happiness Jul 27, 2009
I read the author's 21 ways to finding peace and happiness two weeks ago. It's excellent and I rated it a five star (would be six if possible). I checked the author's other books immediately and found this one. Perhaps my expectation had been too high or the subject/nature of the two books are similar that I had been a little disappointed. Hope you had read this review before you buy and read this book. Just go directly to "21 ways"! It's a great read.
p.s. Despite my review above, below please find some favorite passages of mine for your reference.
The average child laughs about 150 times per day. No wonder the Bible says we need to approach Jesus as little children. pg28 You grow up the day you have the first real laugh at yourself. pg30 Real christianity is so much more than a set of beliefs; it is a way of daily, practical living that comes from understanding the ways and purposes of God. pg112 We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances. - Viktor Frankl pg183 We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not act, but a habit. - Aristotle pg206 When I think of undisciplined people, I think of those who want the perks without the works. pg238

Love the book itself but it was supposed to be new and it was NOT. It was a library book from Philidelphia. I also purchased another book from this same place at the same time and it also was to be a new book and it was NOT either. Poor, poor sellers, I will NEVER buy another book through them again

This is a great CD but I am disappointed that it is not Joyce Meyer's voice.
Make Happiness a Daily Reality Feb 8, 2009
"I believe God wants to do something special in your life, and I believe you are called for a holy purpose - a purpose that has been in God's heart since before you were born." ~ pg. 267
"The Secret to True Happiness" is a call to a holier life which brings peace, joy and contentment into your daily existence. Instead of coveting other people's lives, this book will show you how to be happy with your own. If you are looking for spiritual solutions, Joyce Meyer has some good biblical advice. Each lesson she presents provides and opportunity for spiritual growth. She also encourages the reader to take responsibility for their life and to start making better choices. Throughout "The Secret to True Happiness" Joyce Meyers' encouraging and positive tone makes this book a pleasure to read.
