Reviews - What do customers think about JT3: Joshua's Troop Live?
Good Gospel Music for A Youth Explosion Jun 20, 2008
I decided to buy the DVD of "JT3", Joshua's Troop's latest collection, instead of getting the CD. I was delighted to see so many young people gathered together in one setting singing praises unto God. This DVD is lively and full of energy. Besides, the children are our future and we must do what ever it takes to prepare them for the next level of ministry.
"JT3" sounds excellent as a whole. It says on the back cover that they are all between the ages of 16-22, and those young strong voices pay off well. High points for me are "Try Me Over Again", and of course, "Everybody Clap Your Hands", which was the reason I bought the DVD. I am pleased to have added this DVD to my collection.
Decent Contemporary Gospel DVD For The Kids Jun 1, 2008
I decided to buy the DVD of "JT3", Joshua's Troops's latest collection, instead of getting the CD. My first impression after watching it was that I'm pretty sure I would have reacted differently to this if I had just heard it instead of heard it AND seen it. I would not have been distracted by some of the things I saw on the DVD if I had just bought the CD. It is still a decent enough performance that may possibly take a few to a positive worship experience. It just didn't take me personally to the same level of other gospel DVD's I've seen- at least after the first viewing.
On the good side, JT sounds excellent as a whole. It says on the back cover that they are all between the ages of 16-22, and those young strong voices pay off well. Some of the soloists aren't as solid, but I still enjoyed watching them use what they have to uplift the Lord. The band (which we barely see) also sounded very tight. High points for me are "Try Me Over Again", "I Love You Lord", and of course, "Everybody Clap Your Hands", which was the reason I bought the DVD.
I know this is a group full of younger people and we live in an era of contemporary worship, but there were too many things that distracted me from reaching any level of full worship, especially from the young ladies. There were at least two of them with tongue piercings that "blinged" anytime they even barely opened their mouths, and one young lady received much screen time. Did they have to wear them during this performance? Also, one of the lead singers had a nice-sized tatoo on her shoulder that could have easily been covered by a short-sleeved top, but she showed it of proudly with her sleeveless top. I know that tongue-piercings and tatoos will not keep anyone out of His Kingdom, but in the context of a Praise & Worship/Contemporary Gospel DVD performance, I just believe even a little bit of modesty goes a long way toward reaching a broader audience. However, this DVD may be marketed more for the younger viewer who can relate more with these talented singers who look just like them. Since JT doesn't have the stereotypical choir robes, or even the modest skirt & blouse/shirt & tie look, they may more easily lead those younger viewers into a closer walk with Him through their sincere praise. If that audience is you, forgive my old-fashioned thinking!
It was a treat seeing these young people uplift His name the way they did, and they will hopefully draw many to Christ through their example. I'm sure there are many in my age group (I'm 39) who will immediately overlook the distractions I saw, as I will after I watch this a few more times. Be Blessed!
