Item description for THE LOST SCRIPTURES AND DIVERGENT DOCTRINE: The Lost Books of the Bible and Lost Doctrines of the Faith by Joseph B. Lumpkin...
Many times our search for deeper understanding of the Bible leads to questions beyond the Bible itself. As we encounter references to social conditions, cultural practices, and even other writings mentioned within the scriptures we are called to investigate and expand our knowledge in order to fully appreciate the context, knowledge base, and cultural significance of what is being taught. Canonical Gospels quote other books not contained in the Bible. The Bible warns against heretical teachings without explaining what they are. Without insight into the books being quoted or the heretical teachings being sighted, the quotes and the reproofs mean nothing. Thus, to fully understand the Bible and the faith we are necessarily drawn to sources outside the Bible. These sources add to the historical, social, or theological understanding of Biblical and its people. In that time when the faith and doctrine of modern Judaism and Christianity were being forged, these books were being read, some by Christian sects lost to us today. From our understanding of angels, watchers, giants, nephilim, and demons, to the nature of the person and Godhood of Christ, these non-canonical books molded and influenced our faith, and in the end they diverged from it... or it diverged from them. This Book contains eleven of the most important Non-canonical books in the world today. Section One - Lost Scriptures of the Old Testament - Enoch, Jubilees, Jasher. Section Two - Apocalyptic Writings and the End of Days - Apocalypse of Abraham, Apocalypse of Thomas, 4 Ezra, 2 Baruch. Section Three - Lost Scriptures of the New Testament - Gospel of Philip, Gospel of Mary Magdalene, Apocryphon of John, Gospel of Thomas.

Reviews - What do customers think about THE LOST SCRIPTURES AND DIVERGENT DOCTRINE: The Lost Books of the Bible and Lost Doctrines of the Faith?
Remarkable Jul 18, 2007
The story of the fallen angels, the Watchers, and the Nephilim are explained in the Old Testament section. How the Fallen ones taught men to combine and mutate animals through genetic manipulation is laid out in the book. They taught women to drink mixtures of herbs as a method of contraception. The Watchers taught men to create weapons and the art of war. The flood was to cleans the earth of sin brought about by the fallen ones.
In the section of apocalyptic books we are told that a southern ruler will bankrupt a nation to fund a war and will raise taxes on the elderly to fund his folly. That sounds like today.
In the New Testament section the links between Mary Magdalene and Jesus are explored and the Gnostic gospels are opened wide.
This is an extraordinary collection of ancient books.
Compilation of Excellent Work Jul 18, 2007
The list of translated texts done by Joseph Lumpkin continues to grow. He has published a book containing non-canonical "Old Testament" texts, a book on apocalyptic writings, some of which were written in the inter-biblical phase, and a book on "New Testament" Gnostic texts. THE LOST SCRIPTURES AND DIVERGENT DOCTRINE is the sum of all the texts he has published to date. There is no need to buy any other of his books if you purchase this one. He presents the texts in a very readable flow and has gone above and beyond on some of the books, adding "in-line" comments to explain obscure meanings. I rate this book a 5. Anyone researching the Bible, its history or times should own this book.
