Item description for La balsa de piedra (Punto de Lectura) by Jose Saramago...

A large crack along the Pyrenees separates the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of Europe causing Spain and Portugal to become a great floating island. The characters on this great ship made of rock travel endlessly towards a new utopia.

Description in Spanish:

Nosotros tambin somos ibricos.

Reviews - What do customers think about La balsa de piedra (Punto de Lectura)?

The poetic gaze!  Dec 10, 2006
This work may be the most original and emblematic metaphor written in the last half century. Suddenly a set of internal breakthroughs may be felt around the perimeter of Spain; this chain of events will eventaully lead to Spain to dissociate from Europe and son in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean the island will progressively get close into America.

A prodigious and pleasant ro read novel.
