Item description for Wilderness Skills for Women: How to Survive Heartbreak and Other Full-Blown Meltdowns by Marian Jordan...
Overview It''s woman versus wild in this fun yet frank book about the various wilderness seasons of life. Whether it''s relationship drama, the constant pull of our sinful nature, a health issue, or any variety of unmet dreams, Marian Jordan turns readers to God''s Word as the ultimate wilderness survival guide.
From Moses to Jesus, so many heroes of the Bible had to endure some type of wilderness season in their life, a time of testing that was painful to endure but ultimately brought glory to God.
In "Wilderness Skills for Women," rising author/speaker Marian Jordan sees the same thing happening today as she and her friends still find themselves going through periods of isolation, temptation, sorrow, and waiting. Whether it's relationship drama, the constant pull of our sinful nature, a health issue, or any variety of unmet dreams, Jordan turns readers to God's Word as the ultimate wilderness survival guide.
Conversational and self-deprecatingly confessional in her delivery, this young writer finds ways to have fun with delicate subject matters, using wilderness analogies to great effect in chapters titled "Drink Plenty of Water," "Seek Shelter," and "Don't Eat the Red Berries."

Amazing book! Fun to read and tremenously helpful. Aug 17, 2009
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. The author takes "heartbreak and other full-blown meltdowns" and compares them to being in the wilderness. Then, by carefully pointing out what actions a person in the wilderness must take to survive in a comparable situation, she turns the book into an extensive analogy that she makes fun to read as well as helpful.
The four types of wildernesses she describes are: (1)The wilderness of rejection (2) The wilderness of temptation (3) The wilderness of despair (4) The wilderness of unmet desires. I think everyone can identify with at least one of these wilderness experiences and many of us can recall personal adventures in all four of them.
The book is filled with gems that make the reader stop and realize that she has just received a valuable nugget of wisdom. I will give just a couple of examples "Circumstances that try us, train us." - page 3. "what seems like rejection is God's protection" - page 43.
Marian Jordan's analysis of the wilderness of temptation is probably the best explanation of why a loving God allows good people to suffer that I have ever heard. And she is able to take the reader through the most difficult situations in a humorous fashion that will make it hard for you to put the book down. Marian Jordan is the kind of entertaining teacher that Jesus must have been. Every woman should give herself a treat and read this book. In fact, with all the wilderness examples, I am sure that most men would enjoy it and benefit from reading the book as well.
