Publishers Description Through attempting to live a transformed life by the power of the Holy Spirit, the church in Ephesus was immersed in an evil culture and surrounded by sin and pagan ways. Discouraged believers needed a reminder of God's grace and love of the blessings they had in Jesus Christ, and of their commitment to holiness. Written by the apostle Paul as a letter of encouragement and admonition. Ephesians gives a refresher course in New Testament doctrine and provides a practical blueprint for Christian behavior. Through this letter, Paul shows us our continual need for God's help and demonstrates that everything good we enjoy is an expression of His great love. The Mac Arthur Study Guide Series provides a twelve week, verse-by-verse examination of the books of the New Testament. This revised and updated series continues to be one of the best-selling study guides currently available for individuals or small groups. More About john macarthur
John MacArthur is pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, as well as author, conference speaker, president of The Master's College and featured teacher with Grace to You, an international radio broadcast. His more than six dozen books have sold millions of copies worldwide and include more than two dozen volumes of The MacArthur New Testament Commentary series.
The son of Jack MacArthur and fifth cousin of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur, John MacArthur attended Bob Jones University before transferring to Los Angeles Pacific College (now Azusa Pacific University). He later obtained his Masters of Divinity from Biola University's Talbot Theological Seminary, in La Mirada, California. He graduated with honors. From 1964 to 1966, he served as an associate pastor at Calvary Bible Church, in Burbank, California and, from 1966 to 1969, as a faculty representative for Talbot Theological Seminary. Then, in 1969, he became the third pastor in the then-short history of the nondenominational Grace Community Church of Sun Valley, California.
His daily radio program, Grace to You, which is now broadcast throughout much of the world, began as an audio recording ministry to provide cassettes of his sermons to listeners. They were first broadcast in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1977.
In 1985, MacArthur became the president of The Master's College (formerly Los Angeles Baptist College), an accredited, four-year, liberal arts Christian college; and, in 1986, he founded The Master's Seminary. MacArthur also received an honorary doctorate from Talbot Theological Seminary[ and an honorary doctorate from Grace Graduate School.
Nearly 43 years after beginning in the pulpit of Grace Community, MacArthur completed one his own life goals of preaching through the entire New Testament on June 5, 2011, at the end of his projected target window, stated the previous January, to finish "some time in the summer." During the same interview, MacArthur projected he would complete his commentary series within another five years, some 35 years after beginning.
MacArthur is married to Patricia and they have four children and fifteen grandchildren.

Reviews - What do customers think about Ephesians (Revised) (MacArthur Bible Studies)?
Excellent Bible study tool Jan 19, 2007
John MacArthur has a wonderful gift of commentating on the Scriptures. This is the only one of his Bible study commentary series that I have used so far, but I look forward to using more of this series in the future. This one on Ephesians is tremendous. Highly recommend to any serious student of the Bible.
Ephesians review Sep 25, 2005
The Bible Study gets you started in the right direction, but it's not terribly deep. There is a lot of good material to show consistent connections to other Biblical passages, however if you want to discuss Ephesians and only Ephesians, this should not be your main source. It's a good secondary aid, though.
Deep Riches from Our Divine Bank Account Jun 23, 2004
Ephesians has been rightly called the Christian's "divine bank account" for the riches that God has given us in Christ. The entire book is directed by Paul the Apostle toward the goal of helping disciples know the riches that are ours in salvation.
Dr. MacArthur writes with that one purpose in mind. While the book is indeed a commentary on Ephesians, Dr. MacArthur has written for the goal of helping every believer know their status in the kingdom of God. You will find that you will want to lay down this commentary and shout praise to our King for His great salvation in Jesus Christ. This book is much more than a doctrinal or technical commentary (it has elements of both) but it also is a book of worship as you see the joys we have in Jesus (Ephesians 1:7; 2:1-10)
The Believer's Position in Christ Nov 21, 2001
This is the second MacArthur Commentary I have purchased (the first was Romans), and I must say that I am enjoying this one every bit as much as I did the first one I read.
Dr. Mac has a true gift for expository teaching. He can plumb the depths of scripture "comparing spiritual things with spiritual" without being pedantic. I am using this book in my own personal devotional time, and I am using some of his thoughts on election and predestination in a teaching series at our church.
Dr. MacArthur does a masterful job at making clear the believer's position in Christ. His approach is easily accessible to clergy and layman alike. He brings out strong doctrine, without dogmatism, or denominational slant.
Eventually, I hope to own most if not all of Dr. MacArthur's commentaries as I feel that they are immensely edifying.
INSIGHTFUL Dec 5, 1999
This commentary is one of my most useful resources. It's not necessary to go to seminary in order to understand MacArthur's insight. He presents the information clearly and does a good job of explaining how he arrived at a particular interpretation. He's especially thorough in explaining how the subject of discussion relates to other passages in scripture. He traces many of the key words back to the original Greek and explains their meanings. And he touches on some of the history as well. He does occasionally launch into a sermon which can get away from the main point of the verse. And sometimes I think he overlooks, skips, or misses some of the points that should be mentioned. However, this is still a good and valuable resource for anyone doing a deep study of the book.
