Item description for A Faith to Grow On by John MacArthur...
Overview Updated with an edgy, new design, this inspiring devotional from John MacArthur will help children through their growth spurts of faith. After children have come to accept Christ, a whole new series of questions can flood their hearts and minds. What should I do when I don't understand God? Is there a special way to pray? What if I tell someone about Jesus and nothing happens? As he did in I Believe in Jesus, MacArthur takes these and many more complex questions and presents them in a simple style that young minds can easily understand. He reinforces that understanding with Prayer Starters and daily prompts that help kids to apply their newfound wisdom to their lives each day. A helpful guide for young believers, A Faith to Grow On presents foundational doctrines of the Christian faith in short devotional readings for daily growth.

The son of Jack MacArthur and fifth cousin of U.S. General Douglas MacArthur, John MacArthur attended Bob Jones University before transferring to Los Angeles Pacific College (now Azusa Pacific University). From 1964 to 1966, he served as an associate pastor at Calvary Bible Church, in Burbank, California and, from 1966 to 1969, as a faculty representative for Talbot Theological Seminary. Then, in 1969, he became the third pastor in the then-short history of the nondenominational Grace Community Church of Sun Valley, California.
His daily radio program, Grace to You, which is now broadcast throughout much of the world, began as an audio recording ministry to provide cassettes of his sermons to listeners. They were first broadcast in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1977.
In 1985, MacArthur became the president of The Master's College (formerly Los Angeles Baptist College), an accredited, four-year, liberal arts Christian college; and, in 1986, he founded The Master's Seminary. MacArthur also received an honorary doctorate from Talbot Theological Seminary[ and an honorary doctorate from Grace Graduate School.
Nearly 43 years after beginning in the pulpit of Grace Community, MacArthur completed one his own life goals of preaching through the entire New Testament on June 5, 2011, at the end of his projected target window, stated the previous January, to finish "some time in the summer." During the same interview, MacArthur projected he would complete his commentary series within another five years, some 35 years after beginning.

Teach Your Children What They Need to Know Oct 6, 2006
It's a word that many evangelicals don't even know the meaning of, let alone practice with their children.
Consequently, a whole generation of young people in Christian homes are growing up without a whole-orbed understanding of what God has spoken to His people.
Don't just assume that your children will somehow pick up everything they need to know about Christianity: John MacArthur has given us a valuable resource to help us teach our children simply but systematically the fundamentals of the faith.
In about eighty devotions subdivided into sections on God, Creation, Sin, the Bible, Jesus, Salvation, Worship, Prayer, Church, Forgiveness, Evangelism, & Heaven, Dr. Macarthur covers what every young person needs to know. Each devotion begins with a question, like "What should we do when we don't understand God?" A paragraph-sized answer with Scripture verses, a word scramble, a short prayer, and a suggested activity explain what the Bible says.
Well written, this book can be used as a personal devotion by a young reader or as the basis for family devotions, as I have used the book for years. Highly recommended.
THE BEST! Finally Nov 19, 2005
THE BEST. Excellent. I highly recommend. As with all of Dr. John Macarthur's works, this is packed with life changing Biblical TRUTHS, wisdom and sound doctrine.
It helps Children Understand God Feb 13, 2004
My daughter got this book as a gift for Christmas. It was the best thing she received! A child has such a hard time understanding God, and what he means to our lives. This book explained so much to her. As she progressed through it, I could see the changes in her both mental and emotional. Some of the best chapters and segments were: Can we see God?; What does God want from us?; What should we do when we don't understand God?; Had God really lived forever?; Does God want me to be punished. The list could go on and on, but there is just not enough room to explain how much this will help your child. Some of the other chapters include wonderful segments and descriptions of: Creation, Sin, Bible History, Jesus, Salvation, Worship, Prayer, Church, Forgiveness, Evangelism, and Heaven.
Every Christian Home Should Own One! Jan 1, 2001
It's has always been my hope that parents start building a strong understanding of theological truths in the lives of their children. This book is a great tool to do just that! I do believe that every home which owns and uses this book would benefit. An additional note: Although this book is targeted for the younger elementary age group, it can also be used with new believers who need to get acquainted with the basics. In this post-Christian era we live in, it's amazing how many adults don't know any of the content found in this childrens book.
