Item description for Insight City Guide Philadelphia (Insight City Guides (Book & Restaruant Guide)) by John Gattuso...
Philadelphians think of their home as a "liveable" city - not too hectic, not too crowded, manageable. Thanks to William Penn, getting round the town is easy as pie, designed like a giant chessboard, so it is perfect for visitors and tourists to explore. From Society Hill to Washington Square, from South Philly to City Hall, our expert writers assess all the places worth seeing. The Best of Philadelphia section will help visitors prioritise their trip and cafes and restaurants are recommended for all budgets. The best eateries are described and plotted on the free pull-out restaurant guide which can be used independently of the main guide. Travels tips provide all the information visitors will need and a detailed street atlas and index are featured at the back of the book for instant orientation.

Wonderful for tourists Jun 6, 2008
This book was a great way to get the lay of the land before arriving in Philadelphia. It pointed the way to hidden jewels like a whole neighborhood made of tiny little alleyways that my Philly native friend was unaware of. I had also missed the note on the front of the book and was surprised to find an easily folded pocket map that slips out of a pouch in the back of the book. It came in handy lots of times. Also very helpful for the usual hours/phone numbers/restaurant suggestions.
A Great Guide to a Great City! Apr 13, 2008
I used this book to plan a trip to Philadelphia in April 2008 - I found it to be a very easy to use, and most helpful guide to a fantastic city! In addition to consulting it for advance planning, I referred to it frequently while in the city, to help make decisions on the fly.
Prices (for things like trains, subways, cab fare to/from the airport) have all gone up somewhat since this guide was published in mid-2007 - but that is to be expected. This guide pointed us the the direction of many things that we would NEVER have discovered on our own, and that were well worth seeking out... I highly recommend this book, and will seek out other guides from this series for other trips in the future.
Good Philly guide Sep 26, 2007
This book was very helpful in deciding what to go see during my time in Philadelphia. I referred to it quite often, even though I have lived in Philadelphia before.
