Item description for Light for Them that sit in Darkness by John Bunyan...

This solemn and searching treatise was first
published in 1674, a copy of which is in the
Editor's possession. The author's object is to
correct some fatal errors which then peculiarly
abounded, and to recommend the gospel in its
purity to the acceptation of his fellow-sinners.
Possessing that inward peace, serenity,
happiness, and safety, arising from a scriptural
knowledge of Christ and him crucified, he
proclaims, 'I have ventured my own soul
thereon with gladness,' and 'if all the souls in
the world were mine, I would venture them all.'
His prayer is that others may receive the same
light and life by faith.

More About John Bunyan

John Bunyan John Bunyan (1628 1688) was born in Elstow, England, and his life was spared twice in his early years, something he believed God had done for a special purpose.

John Bunyan was an English Christian writer and preacher who is best known for his allegorical novel The Pilgrim' s Progress, published in 1678. Bunyan' s faith was profoundly influenced by two books owned by his wife: Arthur Dent's Plain Man's Pathway to Heaven and Lewis Bayly's Practice of Piety, and he turned to preaching following the death of his guide and mentor, John Gifford.

In November 1660, when Bunyan arrived to preach in the little town of Lower Samsell, he was informed that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. Unwilling to denounce his Christian faith and his calling to the ministry, he was imprisoned for twelve years. Among the many writings he published during his imprisonment are The Holy City, Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners, and the most famous, The Pilgrim's Progress.

After his release, he continued to write and publish stirring works that have endured through time. Among these classics are The Holy War, Visions of Heaven and Hell, and Journey to Hell: The Life and Death of Mr. Badman.
