Item description for Takin' It Back: Life's Bigger Than Anyone's Game by John A. Kuri...

The compelling story of five inner-city teens who, with the help and coaching of two off-duty cops, entered a citywide basketball competition, beat the odds and won. Their escape from the grim reality of gang violence and drugs is a testimony to the power of mentoring, impact of teamwork and the importance of friendship.

"This book speaks to the inner-city teens regardless of color, and brings honor to thousands of mentors, many off-duty police officers, who selflessly give guidance to hundreds of thousands of our at-risk kids, daily." ---Shaquille O'Neal NBA All-Star, NBA MVP One of the 50 greatest players in NBA history

Reviews - What do customers think about Takin' It Back: Life's Bigger Than Anyone's Game?

Inspiring and Edgy  Oct 10, 2005
This novel will move any reader, and it is easy to read for a high school crowd. Finally, a book that shows that police officers can be mentors through PAL programs. THe forward is nice by Jerome Kersey too. Fast read and well worth it.
