Item description for The Seven Sorrows of Mary: A Meditative Guide by Joel Giallanza...
Overview Amidst her glory as the Mother of Jesus, the life of Mary was one of both great sorrow and triumph. In The Seven Sorrows of Mary, Brother Joel Giallanza, C.S.C., offers a contemporary spirituality of this traditional devotion, highlighting seven moments of suffering in Mary's life, from Jesus' infancy to his death on Golgotha. Giallanza demonstrates how, through her strength in these moments, she is a model for us when our lives are consumed with grief. In this practical and devotional approach, he teaches how Our Lady of Sorrows is also a guide for us in our own struggles, however difficult, as we aim to be closer to her Son.

Reviews - What do customers think about The Seven Sorrows of Mary: A Meditative Guide?
Understanding the Sorrows of the Mother of Jesus Feb 4, 2010
This small book is full of good information on the devotion to OL of Sorrows. The meditations are very good and thought provoking. The meditations are not meant to be read as one is praying the chaplet. Read the mediations, mark points of interest to you and then review your highlighting before one or all of the sorrows. These meditations make the sorrows come alive in a much broader sense than a private thought or two on the sorrow would. Very enriching.
Uplifting and Inspirational Nov 27, 2009
At times when sufferings seem too great to bear, a book such as Joel Giallanza's The Seven Sorrows of Mary can be a terrific resource. But I also find reading a book like this during times in my life when all is well to be a strengthening influence for the rough waters that may await me in the future. I found this book to be a very insightful and fresh look at Mary's persevering ways. I particularly enjoyed reflecting upon the meditations and questions that round out each chapter. This is my first experience reading a book by Brother Joel - I will definitely seek out more of his work in the future.
