Item description for Share!: Make Christ Real to Others by Joel T. Comiskey...
Overview Jesus Christ wants every Christian to grow in a deeper relationship with Himself. Yet so many people stagnate in the Christian life. Grow! explains how to have a daily quiet time in order to know Christ intimately and grow to maturity. This book offers plenty of practical help for turning the "chore" of devotions into a life-changing, joy-producing habit. Grow! outlines clearly how to seek God in the quiet time and explains the amazing benefits of experiencing God on a daily basis. With this helpful and enthusiastic book, a person can have a quiet time that is much more than opening a Bible and saying prayers. It will be a time of experiencing the living God-a time of communion with the King. This book can be used both in a Sunday School classroom and/or one-on-one.
Publishers Description The gospel is the best news on the face of this earth. Many believers, however, don't have a clear understanding of what that good news is nor how to share it. Share offers practical insights to help a believer boldly proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to friends, neighbors, and loved ones. This book is not only designed to equip a believer individually to share his or her faith, but it also instructs a small group how to witness to those outside the Christian faith. Share will especially help believers develop relationships with non-Christians by following the example of Jesus Christ, who was a "friend of sinners." This book can be used in a classroom setting or one-on-one. Share forms part of a five-book series that equips a person to become a fruitful disciple of Jesus Christ. Reviews - What do customers think about Share!: Make Christ Real to Others?
Wow! What an incredible discipling and training tool for the Church May 27, 2007
Joel Comiskey's five book equipping series (Live, Encounter, Grow, Share and Lead) is an unprecedented work in Christendom, that is focused on discipling and training the Body of Christ.
This is a series that resembles a journey, and encompasses the spiritual stages of development from infancy as a new Christian, to the stage where an individual leads a small group.
I have read all of Dr. Comiskey's publications, and this series follows his trademark of crafting language that is understandable for all to read, while at the same time maintaining academic integrity. This is a rare characteristic for a person that has an earned Ph.D., but Joel possesses this ability. Joel models Jesus Christ in this gifting by being inclusive of the masses, while seeking not to exclude anyone.
The nuances from this series is relevant for the long-time believer as well, since much of the subject matter covered in this equipping series may not have been previously encountered by the believer in this level of depth. The reading of this material will generate an introspective look into your life and challenge you to raise the bar.
Joel has included segments in each chapter, which allows the reader to participate in the education enterprise. These segments are entitled: Remember It!, Memorize it!, Apply It!, Try It, and Do it! Following these suggestions will serve as positive reinforcement by exercising what you have read.
If pictures are worth a thousand words, then the power-point presentations and teaching notes that accompany each book are an invaluable tool for training classes, small groups, cell-group leaders, and retreat seminars.
Most importantly this work is not just compiled research, theory, or the author's ideology. Many that have written about such topics, have done so from a "knowledge base only", but Joel Comiskey writes from a "practitioners" perspective. In other words, he has lived these principles out in real life by implementing them. Joel has utilized these principles around the world by writing, coaching, leading training seminars, university classes, and his own pastoral experience. He has found them to be tested, tried, and true. Now he wants you and I to be a beneficiary of these timeless insights.
I have taken Joel up on the proposition, and as a pastor of a new church plant in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area I have purchased the books, power-point presentations, and teaching notes, to disciple and train those that God will entrust to my care. I highly recommend Joel's equipping series for your consideration as well.

This series of books (Live, Encounter, Grow, Share, and Lead) are full of great information and have flexibility in the discipleship process. By going through all five, the participant is taken from a "new believer" to having the tools needed to become a cell leader, as well as a discipler of others! The books have the flexibility to be taught in the classroom setting as well as used within a one on one discipling program. In fact, in our church, we use them both ways: we've had classes from 8 participants to well over 100 go through the material within the classroom context; we also have new believers who are unable to make it to our Biblical Education time going through them with friends - both groups are growing incredibly through the process!
Joel has a great ability to focus on the main issues of discipleship without getting trapped into theological nuance, as well as to speak in a language that makes sense both to lifelong Christians and those who are seeking or have just recently come to faith. He does all of this while not being "cheesy"; an issue that many other discipleship tools fall into. He presents material with a great blend of appropriate and illustrative examples with a focus on the Word as the basis for growth.
Taken in order and used as a complete series, these books provide an incredible foundation for life and ministry. We are commanded to "go and make disciples of all nations" - these are tools that will certainly aid in that calling!
A flexible and workable tool for discipleship! May 8, 2007
Finally, I have found a tool that will help me and my church institute a plan for bringing everyone to maturity in Christ! The five book equipping series written by Joel Comiskey provides a useable set of steps that will help a person grow from little or no knowledge of Christianity to being fully equipped for leadership. The books may be used in a classroom setting, a seminar format or, as we are using them, one-on-one coaching/mentoring with other members of the church. From basics to more advanced topics, the books help a person understand how to grow. Using the books with one another helps each person to assist others in their growth as well. I have used and investigated many discipleship training materials and methods. I can honestly say that I have never come across one that will actually produce disciples who make disciples better than this series of books! I'm convinced, and people are growing!
The series of books, Live, Encounter, Grow, Share and Lead, used as a 5 step process of training a follower of Christ, have my highest recommendation!
Great Book - Great Series for a Strong Foundation in Christ Apr 27, 2007
I really love this 5 Book equipping series by Joel Comiskey. I am currently mentoring a new believer as well as someone who has been a believer for a long time through these books. This book gives the tools for learning how to reach others for Christ. We have as a church decided to use these books as our equipping process that we want all believers to go through on their way to maturity and cell/ small group leadership. I hear nothing but good about this book and the fact that it is easy to understand and is filled with illustrations that anyone can relate to. I have looked at many discipleship materials over the last 25 years and I really love the simplicity and usability of this resource. I highly recommend the 5 books in this series. Live; Encounter; Grow; Share and Lead.
