Reviews - What do customers think about Prayers and Heavenly Promises?
My favorite prayer book of all time Jan 18, 2008
This indispensable prayer book has enriched my prayer life more than any other of its kind. The key to this book is that the author gives us a short history and the indulgences or other benefits derived from the prayer. Padre Pio and St. Therese Liseux prayed these same prayers, and I have found using this prayer book efficacious in my own answered prayers. It has been my constant companion for about 10 years.
Prayers and Heavenly Promises Apr 26, 2006
I wasn't always a believer in Christ, I was basically a Sunday Catholic I was a Catholic for one hour. Christ becomes real when you hit rock bottom and I hit rock bottom and have wanted to come closer to Christ this book was given to me and it has a lot of promises which I claim with particular prayers, it is with me every where I go. It is an excellent book and the prayers and promises it has you have to claim them and believe it will be yours. I believe in the promises and am looking for other books like this. This book is very well done and an excellent book for people who are just starting out their journey with Christ. You won't regret getting this book. God Bless you all
Devotional Handbook Jan 19, 2006
"Prayers And Heavenly Promises" by Joan Carroll Cruz. "Complied From Approved Sources". Tan books, 1990.
This is a small book, not only because it is only 130 pages long, but also because it is only six inches by about 3 ¾ inches. The book can easily fit in a woman's purse or in a man's pocket. Ms Cruz, the author, is know for compiling lists: of Eucharistic Miracles, of Miraculous Images of Our Lord or of incorruptible bodies of saints world wide. In this little book, she has gathered a collection of prayers. Many of which the devout Catholic will immediately recognize. Some prayers will be unfamiliar, which makes this book even more valuable. Towards the back of the book she presents "Familiar Catholic Prayers", such as the "Our Father", the "Hail Mary", (based upon the Gospel of St. Luke), and the "Glory Be". Chapter 12, page 79, tells you about the promises linked to the Holy Rosary, but you will find how to pray the rosary on pages 125 and 126. Interestingly, since this book was copyrighted in 1990, the list of the Mysteries of the Rosary, (p. 125), does not include the Luminous Mysteries which were introduced by the late John Paul II in 2002.
Throughout this book, Ms Cruz documents the promises associated with the different prayers. For example, on page 28, the "Miraculous Medal Prayer", Cruz records that "...that those who wear it (the Miraculous Medal) will receive great graces". The whole book follows this pattern : the prayer is given, with a brief history and then the attached promise (s) described. I found this book a great aid in increasing my simple devotions. I hope you will also.
Inspiring, informative book Jan 23, 2003
This book explains different prayers and why we say them, such as Jesus appeared to St. Faustina and gave her certain promises attached to the Divine Mercy. But there are many more like this that are linked to specific apparitions to specific saints which is why I like it so much. It helps give purpose and meaning to the prayers we choose to say. And if there is any special intention you have, such as someone who recently died, there are special things in it for that. I used it in my class when I taught religion to help make spiritual life have more meaning to my class. Definitely a must-have!
