Reviews - What do customers think about House of His Choosing?
One of the most important christian books of the last 50 years Jun 30, 2007
R. Russell Bixler took a great chance in publishing this book, when one takes the positions he did - especially with his high standing among "Professional Christianity" in the broadcasting business. Originally published 20 years ago. Bixler primarily deals with the Christian church's paradoxical misunderstanding of the bibles most "Scientific Book" - Genesis. Russel took the novel idea of actually studying what the actual text of Genesis says - and he had the God given temperament to not be afraid to shout out to the Christian church the truths he discovered. Reading this book made me feel like I wasn't alone in the desert anymore, but seeing its ranking - shows that there are still too few who have read this important book. If you are a Science minded individual, you will be happy to see that the ancient texts we call the bible - conform with proven science 100% of the time. Some in the church need to drop their silly dogmatic stance on our planet being less than 6-10,000 years old. I don't want to give a complete breakdown of the book as often is done, but just point out Russell Bixler's most important findings in dealing with Creation "ex nihilo". Especially revealing is the "Fact" that in the entire new testament Jesus always "created" miracles using existing matter. i.e. fishes, bread and wine - created from an existing small amount of like matter. Even when Christ brought sight to a blind man the "Logos" of the universe used some dust from the ground mixed it and placed it over the blind mans eyes. Adam too was made from this same dust - Eve was made from the genetic material from Adams rib and so on and so on - every miracle. Bixler does not claim that God does not create ex nihilo! only that in our story, in the biography of "our" planet earth - the matter from which "our" Earth was created was already in existence. Paradoxically, though our earth is relatively young, it is also very very old.....I leave you with one question, appropriately from the last book of the bible which teaches in conformance with the Judaic midrash traditions that God will wrap this age up and create a new "earth" from this existing one. Will that new earth be a young planet? or a very very old one? or paradoxically can it be both?

THE FULL DIMENSION OF THE CHURCH UNLEASHED ! May 29, 2000
I haven't heard of Jim Wies before. But what captured my attention when I was browsing for books was the theme of this book. It always thrills me to find out that there are many spiritual CEOs who can envision how the church is going to look like in this 21st century. Like the other spiritual heavyweights, Jim has perched above the routines of spiritual life.
In his book he has laid down good foundational teachings on how the church should be build. I learned that the growth of the church should contingent on two important planks namely the apostolic and prophetic. These are two long awaited ministries finally arrived at our shore to bring stability and full maturity to the Body of Christ. There are dedicated chapters in this book that has brought us resounding truth that these ministries have not ended up in the jaws of cessation. Thank God there are still excitements left. Nevertheless, no matter how great a ministry protrude itself under the light of recognition, if it is not standing firm on the bedrock of God's way, it will surely shattered. Our eyes should fasten on the Lord. This book etch on my heart as a constant reminder that whatever the Lord has decided to bestow on His church these days, it should be by no means an end to itself. The restored ministries of today are meant to be valuable signposts leading us closer to the Lord.
This leads us to another evaluation. If the church must grow, then it should consider how far her taper roots (foundation) must sink into the earth. In other words, what this book is trying to say is that if we peel off all areas of the church, what remains strongly visible should be our commitment to the Lord and His timeless principles. Spiritual structure collapses when we exert our effort through rickety ingredients. This is what this book flashes out in giant bold. From this you can tell Jim is a lover of the House of the Lord and his holistic interest on the corporate church speaks loud.
After reading this book I soon realized that Jim is a prophetic teacher who can look at the full spectrum of spiritual activities. And yet he did not give the credit to himself but to others who have transferred worthy spiritual knowledge to him. I am also glad he is networking with Bill Hamon. Keep up the good effort, Jim !
