Reviews - What do customers think about Fresh Faith?
Inspiring to an extent Sep 10, 2007
The only drawback in my opinion was that the book focused mostly on all the good things - the situations that ended up happily-ever-after. I was looking to find true faith struggles - where God didn't do the thing that seems right. I also felt that the book conveyed a slight leaning toward word of faith.
Fresh Faith for a hopeless world... Apr 21, 2007
This is a book that is much needed today to help contrast the "name-it-and-claim-it" kind of "faith" being proposed today. This book and its sister book "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire" cut to the heart of Christianity like few books do today. Pastor Cymbala is a man of integrity and true Christian character, and he is one of the great ones of the faith. When others have strayed from the biblical model, Brother Cymbala remains stedfast and his church is a testimony to that.
As for what the online reviewer said:
"Some of Cymbala's politics may offend readers (one chapter profiles an ex-gay husband and father who renounced his former lifestyle and established a ministry to AIDS victims), but he generally manages to rise above divisive polemics to preach a gospel of truth-telling and ineffable love."
It's good to know that God transcends men's political slants on His church. God is neither threatened by men nor by man's politics. This book and Pastor Cymbala's ministry is not politically-driven, it's Holy Ghost- driven; that's why his inner city ministry has been so successful where others would've failed. That's the point of the book and in fact the point of it all. To imply that "change", regardless of what the sin is, is simply motivated by politics is both silly and typical of the modern mind in revolt.
When it comes to Faith, and I'm not talking about "religion", but true, God-fearing faith -- trusting ones life into the hands of God -- it is irrelevant what the latest trends of the culture are, because God will always have His way.
This book is an amazing addition to any collection and a must read along with Brother Cymbala's other books.
Faith In Action Nov 16, 2006
I used this book for my Sunday School Class. It was a great sucess. The book demonstrates that through every day trials and tribulations God should always be our first source for successful and effective solutions.
Great book! Insightful and moving Oct 14, 2006
It's been years that a christian book on faith could be so touching and helpful to me as "What's so amazing about grace? by Philip Yancey." This book (or the author) just did it. These two great books talk earnestly on God's grace, the absolute importance of our relying on God for help rather than our effort. It's furnished so well by insightful exploration into relevant scriptures and colorful elaboration of how Jesus can change, help and save "believers" of our times. I had read the author's "Fresh Power" beforehand but it's less impactful than this. For those who want to enhance their faith in Christ, this is definitely one of the best choice! Highly recommended!
Refreshing - Fresh Faith Jul 30, 2006
I grew up with simiiliar teachings and as I have matured several main stream denominations have departed from the prayer and faith that God desires from His people. I was delighted to know that God still works in many ways, as long as His people desire to call out to Him. Our church is beginning to return to its roots and several groups have started with its main purpose of prayer. Positive changes are occuring and its because God's people are returning to Him in prayer and discovering a renewing FAITH! Shel
