Item description for Understanding Pathology: From Disease Mechanism to Clinical Practice by Jeremy Jass...
Pathology is not merely a static body of knowledge but a dynamic and evolving discipline interfacing with science, medicine and society. The growing trend towards integrated and self-directed learning on the one hand, and the commercialization of medical practice on the other, has resulted in a progressive loss of connection between teaching and the practice of pathology. Based on the specific discipline of anatomical pathology (histopathology) this text realigns education with modern, evidence-based practice and guides medical and health science students toward an understanding of pathology. The unfolding of key ideas is placed in historical context and emphasis focuses on the mechanisms underlying disease processes and the principles of tissue diagnosis.

Reviews - What do customers think about Understanding Pathology: From Disease Mechanism to Clinical Practice?
Outstanding History and Intro to Concepts for Med Students May 17, 2002
I checked out this book from the library to prepare for my first path exam -- I found it both comprehensive and very basic -- you don't find that much in medical texts anymore. The point is, Jass gives you the history and tools to understand why we think about disease the way we do, and how to recognize the body's standard reactions to disease. As a bonus, he includes a detailed storyline of discovery, in pathology as well as anatomy, microbiology, and immunology. I highly recommend it!
