Reviews - What do customers think about Silent Desert 1: Bahariya and Farafra Oases (Bk. 1)?
Unique Book and Exquiste Photography! Jun 22, 2008
This is a rare book about some of the oases in the western Egyptian desert. Farid Atiya's photography is simply exquisite. In addition, the descriptions about places depicted in this book are very thorough and the background history is quite educational. I learned about the "Watermeon Valley" of black stones, the buried "Garra Cave" of limestone, the White Desert of chalk, among other amazing places. I enjoyed the photography of this mysterious part of the desert that allowed me to take a glimpse at its breathtaking beauty. If you cannot travel to these oases, I recommend that you buy this book! However, I was disappointed by the poor binding quality of this book. I wish it could be expanded and reprinted in a larger, coffee table size, in order to allow the reader to enjoy this effort and brilliant photography to its fullest!
Fantastic photography; cheap quality binding and paper. Jan 25, 2008
Great photos, but cheap paper quality and poor binding materials. I've had it for only 2 months and the binding split. It's not a very expensive book so I guess I got what I paid for. I had hoped for it to be a nice coffee table book, but it has almost fallen apart already.
