A Journey through Life Jun 21, 2004
Just as a voyager circumnavigates the world and-- by continuing to travel forward--ends up where she began, so Jean Gould has voyaged through her life by continuing to move forward, step by step, until she returns to where she began. But there's much more to it than that. She has shared with us her trials as well as her triumphs, always with sensititivity and compassion both for herself and for those whose paths she crosses. This memoir, about much more than religious faith, is the story of an enlightened journey through life.
The Impulse to Faith Apr 24, 2004
I loved this book, a searingly honest exploration of the impulse to faith. Poignant, funny, and poetic, this spiritual memoir reads like a fast-paced novel. I picked it up, started reading and did not put the book down until I'd turned the last page. The balance between intellectual and spiritual inquiry should appeal to everyone, regardless of religious faith.
Forty Years Since My Last Confession: A Memoir Apr 23, 2004
Jean Gould has an amazing ability to both chronicle her search and at the same time to chuckle at our human foibles along the way. Her insights relate to each of our experiences and help us to look more closely at ourselves.
A comforting and challenging read Apr 16, 2004
Jean Gould has written a memoir that resonated with me- not so much in the details of her past, which in most respects was very different from mine, but in the way she applies her intellect, focuses her attention, and opens her heart to the faith tradition she longs to reclaim. An excellent book for anyone who struggles with a changed and changing Church, who experiences resentment tempered with love, and who nutures an ongoing desire for a doorway into true and lasting faith commitment.
