Overview 2000 GOLD MEDALLION WINNER Janie Webster lived every parent's worst nightmare. She knew that something was wrong when she returned home from a conference, but never expected to discover that her husband of twenty years has sexually abused their daughter. A committed Christian, Janie and her husband had weathered storms of relocation and crisis. This time, however, trust in her husband was shattered, and her marriage was over. Then her husband was diagnosed with AIDS. Janie was terrified that he could further abuse and infect their child. When the legal system offered no protection, she did the only thing a mother could do; packed a few possessions and left San Francisco in the dark of the night with her six year-old daughter. Fingernail Moon is the story of their five year journey as fugitives, a compelling journal of uncertainty, courage and faith that encompasses the world. It challenges us to listen to our children and act on their behalf; and asks how, faced with the most extreme crisis of life, what we would do, and how we can find the strength to cope with life's turmoils. Janie Webster is a truly amazing woman;open, warm, intelligent, brave. She writes about the worst time in her life with courage and candor.

The lengths a mother would go to for her child Mar 20, 2002
The lengths a mother would go to for her child! As a mother of a daughter, I read this book with great interest. I have heard Ms. Webster speak and had to get the book to hear the rest of the story. She very vividly takes the reader with her young daughter across the globe in search of safety. I could not put this book down once I began and finished within hours. I could only hope that I would have the same courage faced with the same situation. There should be more mothers like this one! Michelle is a lucky girl.
It's a very touching nove; Apr 25, 2000
This book has really touched me because I am a friend of Janie's daughter Ellen, who goes by a different name. It was wonderful to see how God has helped them through this situation and the way that they have coped with it. The novel contains many unbelievable pieces of information that are all too true. I would recommend this book to everyone.
This book is shows bravery at its fullest Sep 8, 1999
I first heard about this book from Janie herself. She was a teacher of mine in college. She told us her amazing story and I could not wait to read the book, well I finally have. This book touched me personally because I know Janie and because so many young girls don't have mothers like Janie. I think that she has proven that it takes courage to go the distance she did to protect her daughter.
FANTASTIC!! Aug 10, 1999
As a fellow Kentuckian, my hat and heart is off to Janie (Chris) for this wonderful, precious account of her journey to protect her daughter. I don't know that I would have had her strength to make such a decision, but then I never had to. God bless you, Janie, for sharing all the details of your struggle to save Ellen, and bring yourself to a complete understanding with your God. I know this book will bless all who read it.

The book was wonderfully written and I read it in just a few hours. I just couldn't seem to put it down. I highly recommend this book. Read it, you'll love it!!!
