Great Catholic Study Guides for all Ages! Sep 6, 2007
Grades 3-4 Saint Thomas Aquinas: This exiting story is written as if St. Thomas
himself was telling it. It tells of St. Thomas' experiences in school, as the "Dumb Ox"; his efforts to join the Dominicans, despite his wealthy mother's objections; and much more!
The Patron Saint of First Communicants (Blessed Imelda Lambertini): This amazing book tells of the young girl who longed to recieve the Lord in the Holy Eucharist, but was continually rebuffed by her young age. Readers will enjoy following Imelda's story as she strives toward the Lord, the source and summit of all life!
Saint Catherine of Siena: Visions of Saints in the sky? Advising the pope himself? It happened to St. Catherine! This is the remarkable story of the Girl who saw Saints in the Sky.
St. Catherine Laboure (The Miraculous Medal): When a young novice in the convent said she had seen Our Lady, nobody believed her. And when she said that the Blessed Virgin wanted a medal made, well, it was almost too much to believe! Here is the amazing story of St. Catherine and the Miraculous Medal.
I started using the RACE study guides in 3rd grade. Over several years I completed the entire series, doing a small portion of the guide(such as the vocabulary, comprehension questions, geography and timeline). I then went through the books and work a second time, after I had completed the entire series, doing all of the work (forming opinions, Checking the Catechism, etc). As an older student, my ability to understand and research was much different than when I had begun in 3rd grade. I got a lot out of these books, and learned much about the life and times of Saint Thomas Aquinas, The Patron Saint of First Communicants (Blessed Imelda Lambertini), Saint Catherine of Siena, and St. Catherine Laboure (The Miraculous Medal). The books also led me to a deeper understanding of my faith and the Scriptures, through the Growing in Holiness and Searching Scripture assignments. I also gained experience in research and writing, through the Forming Opinions and For Further Study assignments. The research assignments also allowed me to learn more about the major people and events that surrounded these saints.
These guides are great for teaching religion, history, geography, writing, literature, research skills, and character!
