Great Catholic study guide for all ages! Sep 6, 2007
St. Martin de Porres: From humblest means... The black child of a Spanish soldier and a black woman, young Martin lived in poverty. That is, until his father returned and he began to work as a doctor's apprentice. Follow Martin from poverty to education to the Dominicans, and, ultimately, sainthood!
Blessed Marie of New France: Follow Bld. Marie as she jouneys to the New World to found a new convent in Quebec, New France. Follow Marie and her conpanions as they teach the Natives the Catholic faith, and battle the harsh Canadian winter.
I started using the RACE study guides in 3rd grade. Over several years I completed the entire series, doing a small portion of the guide(such as the vocabulary, comprehension questions, geography and timeline). I then went through the books and work a second time, after I had completed the entire series, doing all of the work (forming opinions, Checking the Catechism, etc). As an older student, my ability to understand and research was much different than when I had begun in 3rd grade. I got a lot out of these books, and learned much about the life and times of St. Rose of Lima, St. Martin de Porres, King David, and Blessed Marie of New France. The books also led me to a deeper understanding of my faith and the Scriptures, through the Growing in Holiness and Searching Scripture assignments. I also gained experience in research and writing, through the Forming Opinions and For Further Study assignments. The research assignments also allowed me to learn more about the major people and events that surrounded these saints.
These guides are great for teaching religion, history, geography, writing, literature, research skills, and character!
