A Lovely Story that Shines and Inspires Mar 20, 2009
I rarely have the luxury of time to enjoy fiction, but this sweet, genuine story has captured me, heart and mind, in its lovely pages! That the author is a member of my extended family - we are first cousins and descendants of a "real-life" Charles Graves - makes the experience of reading her debut novel even more delightful! From its beautiful cover art to the captivating unfolding of the story, this small book brings a feeling of peace and warms the heart. Janet Dean has crafted a compelling story of life, love, courage, and conviction that rings true, and gently weaves threads of faith throughout the story. Adelaide Crum and Charles Graves embody the very best that is within the human heart, even with their imperfections. If I could distill the essence of Ms. Dean's inspired story, it would be from the words of I Corinthians 13, "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy, does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own; is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth; bears all things; believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." Janet, my dear cousin, I can't wait for your next book!
Couldn't put it down!!! Jan 18, 2009
This book was so good! Wonderfully written, it holds you in it's grip until the last page. It's one of the best Christian romance novels I've ever read. I can't wait for Janet Dean's next novel! Five stars all the way!!!
Hat's Off to Miss Adelaide, and this charming tale! Jan 2, 2009
I stumbled across this in Barnes, and Noble.I was truthfully, drawn to the cover art, and after I read the back cover, I decided to purchase it. I am not really a romance-novel reader, but I must confess, this was truly a page-turner!I felt that I actually KNEW these folks, the way the author skillfully portrayed them. The only issue I had was that it was stated every couple of pages, that Charles could not marry her,and she could not trust, or marry him.I do believe that mentioning this was crucial to the tale,I just felt it may have been a tad much to mention it over and over again. Other than this "complaint", I loved this story!
A Book That Lingers ... Nov 9, 2008
"Courting Miss Adelaide" is a wonderful tug-on-your-heart romance. It has everything--a troubled hero, a determined heroine, danger, hope and two children who need a family. I loved the end!
