Item description for Mocha, the Real Doctor by Jane Roberts Wood...
Mocha, the real doctor, resides in Dr. Susan's veterinary clinic and sleeps by day, but when night has come and the staff gone home, leaving the many sick and hurting animals to convalesce, it is time for Mocha to make his rounds. Up Mocha springs, straightens his tail, and sets to attentively visiting each patient. Gently, he sings, purrs, and coaxes every one to health. All his healing work done and having made his usual lordly daybreak stroll through Dr. Susan's flower beds, Mocha has his breakfast and settles down in his cozy basket. A modern myth of healing, meaningful for any sick child or for any child concerned for an ailing pet.

Mocha the Clinical Cat Mar 4, 2004
"Mocha the Real Doctor" is a wonderful book for an array of reasons. It has immediate appeal with lush and luminous watercolor illustrations that cover the pages requiring repeated viewing in order to take in all that is there. "Mocha" is meant to be read aloud. The sounds roll off the tongue and purr through the throat, to the delight of reader and listener alike. A combination guaranteeing that it will be read and read again. After all books that grown ups like to read have an added advantage at bedtime. There is more to "Mocha" than pretty pictures and charming words. More than an entertaining story of the clever, wise cat who leads a double life, sleeping all day at Dr. Susan's animal clinic then rising and stretching only after all the humans have left for the day. We share Mocha's nocturnal adventures as he makes rounds visiting each animal who comes to the clinic for treatment. What wise Mocha knows that makes him a miracle worker is not modern medicine but the true source of each animals pain. The tiny turtle and the soft bunny rabbit and the swooning gold fish each harbor a deeper longing, a longing for their true home. Deep within them lives on the memory of swamps and meadows, open water and fragrant breezes. As Mocha sits patiently, singing a soothing lullaby each tiny spirit is restored. Mocha knows the yearning that rabbits and fish and people all have for lives lived full of gentleness and nurturing friendships and familiar surroundings that make a place our home. "Mocha" is a book of abundance. Abundant imagination, abundant color bathing each page in a way that envelopes the reader, wrapping them in the song being sung. "Mocha" also offers abundance to the ear with Mocha's rhythmic lyrics and the clever plant names in Dr. Susan's garden. Reading "Mocha" is a luxury. "Mocha" the book has the same affect on the reader that Mocha the doctor's purring song has on his nightime patients. It sooths the soul. In our stressful and damaged world Ms. Wood's human readers will recognize and appreciate the wisdom she offers through the cat she has so lovingly created for us.
