Reviews - What do customers think about Civil War Regiments from New Jersey, 1861-1865?
A waste of time Mar 29, 2006
Don't waste your money on this book, it's a book of lists, lists of SOLDIERS who were 'eligible' to received the 1st Defenders and Veteran Medals from the State of NJ.
The EDITOR, must have gotten a list from the NJ State Archives or Musuem and published it. He even throws in a quick synopsis of the medals and a few poor quality photos for good measure.
There are no footnotes or acknowledgements as to where the data, any supplimental data which may be added, or even where did the photos come from. Poor research overall.
All names in the book are in alpha order. It would have been more useful if the book was in a CD format to slice through the data making it more meaningful and worth the cost.
To pad the book, The editor even throws in Dyers Compedium of all NJ Units at the end.
This book could serve as a reference, but there is little more you can get out of this book that can't be taken from other sources other for the names of the medal receipiants. A poor reference at that as how important is this information in the grand scope of NJ and the Civil War unless you are a Civil War medal collector.
