Item description for The Complete Idiot's Guide to The Bible (Complete Idiot's Guides) by James S. Bell, Jr., Stan Campbell & Stan Cambell...
Overview You don't have to wear your Sunday best to know the Good Book! You're no idiot, of course. You know the Bible's Old and New Testaments comprise the key guidebook for Christians. This ancient book is the source of many stories, quotes, and examples for living today, and it covers a lot of ground - from the dawn of creation to Judgment Day. But it's more than you can take in on just the Lord's Day! The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Bible, Second Edition, illuminates all the stories in the Good Book and what they represent. Learning the Bible doesn't have to make you pray for help! * Historical versions of the Bible and what documents make up the book we read today. * The long lives and stories of Abraham, Jacob, Isaac, and Esau. * Joseph, Egypt, famine, and forgiveness. * Old Testament poetry and songs in Psalms. * Jesus, the four Gospels, and what happened to the apostles. * Women in the Bible - and their place in history. * The church in Roman times, early Christians, and Paul's churches.
This audio walks both experienced Bible readers and those seeking it out for the first time through a chronological, story-by-story and person-by-person experience.

Very Unhappy Aug 19, 2008
I was very disappointed in it. The pericope sections are just restatements with very simplistic explanations. It didn't open up the Bible for me in any way and I can't imagine making my Sunday School class suffer through it. I recommend The Complete Idiot's Guide Bible Study for Teens -- it is much more interesting and has more information to help open up the Bible. And you don't have to be a teen. I bought this version because I couldn't imagine having adults use a teen book. But the teen book is much more interesting, with so much more information. Good luck in your search for helpful Bible resources. I'd honestly skip this one, though.

who knew the bible was so entertaining Mar 20, 2008
I've been trying to read the bible for years but just could not get into it. This book is "the best of" the bible and actually makes it readable. And better yet, it's understandable! I love the sense of humor the writers have (of the guide not the bible itself) - I actually laughed out loud at one of the titles. This book truly does make reading the bible an enjoyable experience.
